Any baking experts about?

Advice needed please.
I've made a cake with half the ingredients. The recipe says to bake for 50 mins, adding foil to the top after 30 mins.
Any idea how long these timings should be when it is half the size of the original?
It's in a 9 inch tin, which is as stated in the recipe (cos it's the only one I have), so it will be more spread out.

Bumping hopefully.

I'm no expert, but I'd check it after about 30 minutes. Add foil if it's looking too brown on top. I'd guess about 35-40 minutes in total?

What sort of a cake? Can you have a Google for other recipes that use approx the same measurements?

And check by using a skewer! If it comes out clean, it's done. (Sorry if you know that bit already).

I would check it after 20-25 mins and keep a close watch.

it depends in many factors.
is the tin you use for half the amount the same height as for full amount?

as pp I think about 2/3rd of the original cooking time is probably realistic. ckeck with a skewer.

birdling · 03/10/2021 08:42

Yes, same height. It's a coconut flour cake rather than normal flour.

Check after 20 mins for brownness and cover if required- total cook time no more than 35 mins.

Yum, coconut cake. I’ve just seen you are planning to use the same size tin with half the ingredients, meaning your cake will be about a third as high as the original recipe.

I’d check it after 20 mins. A thinner cake is more likely to burn.

Quitelikeacatslife · 03/10/2021 08:53

You really should use a smaller tin if you have one
Then I'd check after 25 mins

Quitelikeacatslife · 03/10/2021 08:54

Sorry just read it's all you have , keep an eye on it after 20 mins
