Just that really. It’s really red but my tonsils are where they should be. I’ve survived all day on a diet of ice poles and raspberry sorbet. Family all fed, feel I should eat something decent but nothing appeals, any ideas? Also, any recommendations for lozenges etc? Strepsils are useless, as a kid my mum used to give me dequicane but not seen it in years.

How about the Chloraseptic spray? It completely numbs the throat and is more useful than any lozenges.

Also keep on top of ibuprofen and paracetamol

Meredusoleil · 02/10/2021 20:13

Gargle with TCP!

MrsDThomas · 02/10/2021 20:14

What about tyrozets? And as pp mentioned, spray.

DD also has a bad throat and uses the spray

I used to swear by Decquacaine - but you’re right, I’ve not seen it for an age. Google suggests it should still be available though.

You can't buy tyrosets anymore! I was gutted when the fourth pharmacist told me Sad
MrsDThomas · 02/10/2021 20:36

You cant? Do you know why

Sally872 · 02/10/2021 20:38

Difflam spray or gargle (and then swallow) dissolving paracetamol. Hate that kind of cold/sore throat.

MotherWol · 02/10/2021 20:39

Seconding Difflam gargle, it’s the only thing I’ve found that works.

Blankspace4 · 02/10/2021 20:40

Have you taken a covid test?

That’s exactly how my throat was when I had it - razor blades.

No tyrozets anymore (apparently it’s because they contain a low dose antibiotic and they aren’t allowed to sell OTC). Difflam spray works for me, again ask for it over the counter. It contains a numbing anaesthetic so it does help

poohaloo · 02/10/2021 20:43

Get some peroxyl mouthwash it's brilliant for sore throats... gargle with it especially before bed
It really does stop tonsillitis in its tracks

MrsDThomas · 02/10/2021 20:49

Keep your eye on other symptoms. Strep is a bugger too.

Darceyhemingway · 02/10/2021 20:52

Diflam spray. Itl numb your mouth

Tatapie · 02/10/2021 20:57

@Meredusoleil

Gargle with TCP!
Don't do that , doctor told me was akin to bleach it's that harsh! Difflam spray / gargle aspirin
samwitwicky · 02/10/2021 21:03

I had this a few weeks ago, the day after I tested positive for Covid.

The only thing that helped me was lukewarm lemon and honey and LOADS of ice pops.

Sprays, lozenges etc made no difference although lockets were nice for the honey.

Try inhaling steam.

If you don't have an appetite stick to ice pops etc. If you do, try warm soup or something that will go down easy

Feel better Thanks

RoseMartha · 02/10/2021 21:03

kitcat15 · 02/10/2021 21:06

My daughter and 2 grand daughters have all tested positive for covid this week
.....only symptom was a rally bad sore throat

SaveWaterDrinkGin · 02/10/2021 21:08

You need difflam spray

IamEarthymama · 02/10/2021 21:12

Oh you have all my sympathy, I have only had a throat like that twice and it was horrendous.

Difflam saved my sanity.
I was able to sip very thin soup, even just a stock cube in hot water.

Be very careful, if it gets worse get someone to ring 111.
I hope you feel better soon OP.

Lollypop701 · 02/10/2021 21:51

Gargle with soluble aspirin…game changer

AtleastitsnotMonday · 03/10/2021 08:30

Thank you all. I went with gargling aspirin last night and am heading to pharmacy shortly for the difflam spray and the mouth wash. I’m at the stage of trying anything!
I’ve done L FT and that’s negative but I’m going to get pcr for piece of mind.
