Big roof leak, help me chill out!

Got a small leak a few weeks ago, got a temporary sealant fix. Our man we've used before from a general maintenance company came and replaced the lead valley that runs down the middle of the roof where the leak was.

Next time it rained it was worse. Multiple leaks all along the length of the valley straight into the landing. Man came back on Thursday and did a load more work. It's still coming through.

We have 9 buckets and other receptacles on top of towels on top of tarpaulins and bin bags. Mam is coming back on Tuesday.

I'm trying to be relaxed. DH is a paragon of calm acceptance that no permanent damage is being done and the next fix will sort it. I'm trying not to cry and not to fixate on the idea that we can't fix it and the whole house will end up falling down.

Aaarrgh.

Oh dear, that sounds very stressful! And especially with the current weather (obviously depending where you live!).

You need a time served roofer, a lot of people think they can fix a roof but very few can do it properly.

If he's put in a new lead valley and it's leaking that badly he's done something very wrong. (My partner is a roofer of 42 years).

Sorry OP, I do hope you get it sorted soon.

I've just had my valley replaced after a small leak. There shouldn't be any further leaks. It sounds like the problem wasn't the valley or he's not replaced it properly. Could you get a second opinion?

I think it must be wrong. I think we might have to someone else to look. Although finding a roofer these last few weeks has been a nightmare. I called, emailed and left messages with 6 or 7 and nobody got back to me.

The guy that did it has done really good work for us before. I feel really bad getting someone else in but it's so much worse than it was before he did the work, it must be wrong up there.

Shit.

It's always a worry when it's your roof but it'll get sorted. Try not to worry.

NotYourCupOfTea · 02/10/2021 23:55

Presumably the person doing the repairs is adequately insured so if they do balls up and cause issues you can claim against them?
But I’d be getting someone else in as they don’t sound competent and I’d be worried about long term damage

It sounds like you need your roof overhauled. Don’t worry- the house will not fall down!
We had multiple leaks every time it rained in our old house. Getting the roof re-laid fixed it tiles off, new membrane put down, same tiles back on, new flashing, ridge tiles etc. It took us a wee while to save up (ex was in debt) so we had over 6 months of leaky roof. Didn’t need any internal work done as a result, just a bit of painting. You’ll be fine x

PS we had a valley too- they are a pain in the arse!
