Child passport query

I'm currently completing a child passport renewal form for DD, and I have to put down my details in section 4 and DH's as we are her parents. On the form it states that as I was born after 1983, I need to give MY parents full details in Section 8 ( this seems a bit ridiculous to me) but then in the guidance booklet provided with the form, it says the passport office only require's the grandparents details if BOTH parents were born after 1983, DH was born Pre 1983. Can anyone help clarify this for me please! Thank you.

Assuming you have all details I would just put them in, it’s not onerous to do so and it will certainly not cause an issue of too much information is on the form, and saves the risk of a form being rejected by an over eager caseworker.

However, assuming DH was born in the U.K. before 1 January 1983 then that should be all of the information they need.

The reason for the question is that before 1 January 1983 anyone born in the U.K. was automatically British. Therefore if they were a parent of a child born in the U.K. that child would also automatically be British.

If both parents were born after 31 December 1982 then they would not necessarily be British, and the child may therefore not automatically be either, so the grandparent information is to help to confirm the status of the parents. At least I think that’s why they ask it.
