If you have revolut just exchange that amount to dollars and send to their bank account?

GrumpyPanda · 02/10/2021 02:36

Amazon gift card? No transfer charges that way.

Western Union is easiest. You need full legal name of the recipient, and also address and perhaps phone number. Notify your recipient.
www.westernunion.com/gb/en/send-money-to-usa.html

www.keycurrency.co.uk/transfer-money-from-uk-to-usa/
Bank transfer info here.
Your recipient will have to provide you with his/her bank details - name of bank, address of home branch, (main bank address if online bank), SWIFT number (they will have to look online for this), routing number, checking (current) account number.

The charges will make your transfer seem a silly idea.

I use my banking app to make payments abroad - just need to set up a payee. Bank doesn't charge a fee for standard (takes a couple of days to reach payee's a/c) transfers.

If you use papal or a bank transfer you pay the sterling (£) and then PayPal or whoever transfers it into dollars.
Paypal or whoever will know your account is in £ and the recipient is in $.

Does that make sense?

Either use Revolut as previous poster has suggested, or Wise.com (used to be Transferwise) is very good.

I use Paypal regularly to do this.

There is a facility to enter the amount of the payment in a different currency.

Paypal then converts the payment into sterling when taking the money out of your account and pays the recipient in dollars.

HoppingPavlova · 02/10/2021 08:08

PayPal. It figures out the exchange.

PerseverancePays · 02/10/2021 08:15

PayPal as a gift rather than business so there’s only the conversion charge. Most banking methods have higher combined charges.

Wise or Paypal

ILoveJamaica · 02/10/2021 17:15

I've recently done this and I used Paypal. You can key in the Dollar amount, and it tells you what you'll be paying in pounds.
