Tesco Clothes - Exchange but no Receipt

Evening all

I brought my son some pjs, for some reason (early Saturday morning blurry eyed) I picked up the wrong size.
I can't find the receipt. Will they swap to a bigger size without it? I only got them last weekend.

Thanks in advance

They used to ....but now require a receipt or proof of purchase even for an exchange

SpaceSmudge · 01/10/2021 20:50

Hello, @Justwingingit2005, I work on the customer service desk for a Tesco Extra. You do not need the receipt to do an exchange. You can exchange it for the same item in a bigger size or something else if the size you want isn’t in stock.

We would only need your receipt if you asked for a refund, but whoever you speak to on the counter will tell you what to do.

Buy the new size then return smaller size with new receipt 🙂

Yes they gave me a gift card last week for a pair of trousers (at current selling price but they were still full price) that are really good.

Tailendofsummer · 01/10/2021 21:42

I have been told I could not do an exchange in Tesco (for a pair of school trousers to a smaller pair in same type). I went back the next day and asked again and this time it was fine. Confused

Did you pay on card? Show them your statement and you should be ok.

Won't buy clothes from Tescos due to their policy.

I'd bought ds a lovely set when he was a toddler. Shirt and trousers. They were attached to the hanger (that said 2-3 years), he was 18 months. They were attached with plastic tags that held them firmly on, which included another label that said 2-3 years.

I put them on ds and off he ran. Then I looked at the trousers and realised they were halfway up his ankle. So I took them off again and found that although the shirt was 2-3 years, the trousers were 12-18 months.

So I took them back and explained. They refused to refund or return because I'd cut the labels off. The manager (who didn't look old enough to be out of school) tried explaining very patronisingly that he never cut labels off his clothes until he'd tried them on and checked they fitted. He refused to budge even when I pulled a identical pair off the shelves and pointed out that they couldn't come off the hanger without cutting the label off, and even if they had, then they were wrongly labelled.

I have not bought any clothes from them in 10 years. Petty? Possibly. However I complain rarely, but when it's something as obviously their fault as that I expect no arguments.

seaandsandcastles · 02/10/2021 05:37

@MargaretThursday Why would they take them back because you didn’t check? They can’t resell them once you’ve cut the labels off so of course they weren’t going to refund/exchange.

It’s unfortunate, but you should have checked.

And there’s really no need for ageism and nasty comments about the way someone looks just because you didn’t get your way.

I recently returned a pair of dds trainers without a receipt. They can track your order through your clubcard.

DebDebx · 05/12/2023 07:02

Hi, your wonderful help is needed. I tried to return an item to Tescos with the receipt but didn't have the clubcard with me. They refused to refund. Looked online at returns policy but no mention. Help!! Many thanks

Tailendofsummer · 05/12/2023 08:51

What? That seems very odd. Did they give a reason?
you'd be better starting your own thread though or people will respond to the OP, not to you
