'Walking barefoot still' - does this song even exist??

My aunt has dementia. She keeps talking about a song she loved back in the 80s that was either called Walking Barefoot Still or has those words in the lyrics.

She wants me to play it for her but I can't find it anywhere! When I google all I find is a more recent song by Ash called Walking Barefoot and it's definitely not that.

I'd be tempted to think her memory is playing tricks on her if it wasn't for the fact I have a vague recollection from my childhood of seeing it among her record collection. I also recall a male vocalist with an extremely low voice, although he might have been a backing singer rather than the main vocalist.

Can anyone put me out of my misery and identify the song, please?!

Could it be Grace Jones Barefoot in Beverly Hills which has that lyric and fits the time period

Whentheydontmeanwhattheysay · 01/10/2021 17:45

Maybe she is confusing a couple of songs?

Grace Jones Barefoot in Beverly Hills 1986?

Lyrics
Still walkin barefoot, still walkin barefoot, still,
Still walkin barefoot, in Beverly Hills,
Still walkin barefoot still, in Beverly Hills,
I can walk on the stone, I can walk on the grass,…

There are lots of songs with barefoot in the lyrics but you would have to sort through them all for the years. I can’t see an option to sort-sorry.

Alas, it's not Grace Jones Barefoot in Beverley Hills - the song I'm thinking of is less upbeat with a slower tempo. Not a ballad but quite a moody/atmospheric song.

Thanks for the link to the lyrics site - guess what my Friday night is going to consist of?!

Not mixing it up with Patti Smith - Dancing Barefoot by any chance?

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 01/10/2021 18:03

Could it be Dancing barefoot by Patti Smith?

Catra · 01/10/2021 18:03

No, not Patti Smith, it has a slower tempo, but thanks for the suggestion.

Ah, beaten to it!

Elvis?

AlphabetAerobics · 01/10/2021 18:16

Very long shot - but “London still” by The Waifs.

No barefoot either and early 2000s, but very melancholy and I’ve always felt very “end of life” - and/or if she’s an expat it might resonate.

Ps sorry to any Aussies who’ve sobbed their way through that the last 18 months.

Catra · 01/10/2021 18:45

It's not Elvis nor is it The Waifs, although my DH who lived in Australia for some time says he loves that song.

Walking in Memphis?

ThePenIsBlue · 01/10/2021 18:56

Walking in Memphis ???

Walkin’ back to Georgia by Jim Croce?

Catra · 01/10/2021 19:33

It isn't Waking in Memphis nor Walkin' Back to Georgia.

It's not folk nor guitar-led music, but really difficult to pinpoint the genre from the scant memory I have of it.

Lead singer: Walking barefoot still
Backing singer with low voice: I'm walking barefoot

DH says it sounds familiar but can't name it.

Arrrgh!!!
