Wedding money gift - how much?

DataColour · 01/10/2021 13:43

I haven't been to a wedding in a long time. Going to a colleague's wedding tomorrow for the whole day. We are pretty close, meet up outside work etc. DH and kids (11 and 12) invited too.
They prefer money towards honeymoon....how much do you think is ok. I was thinking £100, is it too little? No idea what the protocol is regarding this!
Thanks!

I think it's a generous gift.

Mindymomo · 01/10/2021 14:25

That’s what I would give or £200. If you were to get a present, there isn’t much you can get for under £100.

brizzlewizzle · 01/10/2021 14:30

£100 is more than enough!

There’s 4 of you going to the wedding so that’s 4 meals. Personally I’d up it to £150. If it was my wedding I certainly wouldn’t be offended at all at £100. £150 is just what I would be comfortable with giving.

crimsonlake · 01/10/2021 14:46

I think since 4 of you are going I would up it to possibly cover the cost of your meals, so yes at least £150 if you can afford it.

Snowdropsandbluebells · 01/10/2021 14:48

I would give at least 150 since 4 are going 100percent

Cruiser11 · 01/10/2021 14:52

I’d give between £50 and £100.

WhyOhWhyOhWhyyyy · 01/10/2021 14:53

I think that’s plenty. We got married 3 years ago and most people gave £40-£60, other than very close family. I tend to give £60.

KaptainKaveman · 01/10/2021 15:00

Yes £100 is a lot!

Billandben444 · 01/10/2021 15:02

The wedding gift is not meant to cover the cost of their meal as this is part of the cost of the wedding therefore £100 sounds about right.

yikesanotherbooboo · 01/10/2021 15:11

£100 is plenty.

Atalune · 01/10/2021 15:23

£100 is fab.

Thanks for all your replies!

Do you just stuff some cash in the card or would a cheque be better?

ParkheadParadise · 01/10/2021 20:50

£100 is fine.
I usually buy a Wedding Gift money card.

MrsSkylerWhite · 01/10/2021 20:51

For a colleague, £100 is generous, I’d have been thrilled with that.

Hottubtimemachine · 01/10/2021 20:52

Last wedding I went to we gave £125 for 2 of us. I would give more if 4

Spikeyplants · 01/10/2021 20:54

It clearly varies by area, but I'd normally give £100 for just DH and myself. There are 4 of you going, so I'd be giving £150.

Panda8383 · 01/10/2021 20:57

I would maybe get a money wallet thing and put the cash inside that :-)
