Where to dispose used children's books?

That's the question. I am in South London. Suppose could leave them by a charity shop, but it's a big box and I wonder if that's really the best way?

Freecycle? Split them and take to different charity shops? Some supermarkets here have book banks you can put them in.

See if the local nurseries/schools want them

Ask local schools? That's where nearly all of mine were gratefully taken

Charity shops or local school.

Actually it's the local recycling centre (tip) which has the book banks, not the supermarket.

Try the Ziffit and/or We Buy Any Books apps. They collect from your home.

We've got a couple of 'little library' book swap boxes locally.

I've also taken to leaving an open box of books outside the house in good weather and found that the majority of kids books tend to go. I even heard someone explaining to their child that some nice person had finished with the books and wanted other children to read them, and then they would do the same and pass them on.

I've also donated books to our primary school as well.

During lockdown someone in our neighbourhood started a 'street library' type thing by putting lots of books in a big, water tight box.

There don't seem to be any rules, you can take as many as you want, keep or return them if you want and there's always a good turnover of books. My kids love having a look in when we go past. It's been really successful. Could you do something like that?

I gave way our mountains of old books to various schools. They were much appreciated by everyone that came to collect them.
