has anyone made a complaint about a wind farm before? The noise is driving me mad [title edited by MNHQ at poster's request]

I thought it was from our house, because it’s all around the house. It’s like someone twanging a low note on a guitar and leaving it like that. Like a distant ship horn but lower and fairly constant.

We live in a very remote area. It started maybe a year ago. Older people can’t hear it but young ones can. It can be heard in nearby hamlets.

It happens all times of day and night.

We don’t have any factories nearby or industrial estates but do wind farms, a village and a quarry.

Help!!

A while back, I was driven mad for several nights by a very low frequency diesel engine kind of noise...I kept thinking that someone was sitting in an idling car outside the house in the dead of night, but when I looked out all was quiet. I thought I could escape from it by staying at my exP's- five miles away, and nearer the sea- but to my distress it was even worse there! (although it didn't bother him).

A day or two after that, I was walking along the harbour- about 6 miles from my house, and about a mile from ex's house- and noticed that they were dredging it. And the dredgers were giving out a low, low, constant Diesel engine hum....

Weirdly, the noise bothered me a lot less once I had identified it.

(sorry, nothing to do with wind turbines I know, just thought I'd add my four penn'orth!)

theAntiGardener I have an air source heat pump, and it's fine. When I first heard it start up, it sounded like a washing machine starting to go into its spin cycle and I thought "Jesus, this is going to be intolerable!" But I WAS sitting right next to it in the garden, and the thing is that it only comes on regularly when it's cold enough to have the heating on, which is when I don't have the double glazed windows open (it's under my bedroom window), and I don't hear it at all.

Thanks crackofdoom - trying to embrace the arrival of the heat pump era so good to hear people having positive experiences. Apparently they have got quieter, so maybe my info is outdated now. I’m still keeping my fingers crossed for hydrogen as a viable alternative, mind, but it seems that isn’t very realistic!
