Fabric mending advice needed

FrogFairy · 29/09/2021 21:49

I bought a Joules shirt from eBay for my mum, the seller very kindly packed it up tighter than a Duck’s arse with the fabric actually folded up in the folds of the plastic parcel bag. So despite my very careful efforts to open it, I have snipped two small v shapes into the fabric.

Please can anyone suggest the best way to mend it?
My mum says that years ago you could get stuff similar to Wonderweb but for mending rather than for hems. Is there a modern equivalent, or would fabric glue do a better job.

Any advice gratefully received.

Yes, if you google , fabric repair web, you’ll get quite a few.
Iv never repaired a T-shirt this way so I don’t know which would be best. But do bear in mind, the repair web will not move the same way as the fabric, you will probably be able to feel it, depending on where the cut is it could be more noticeable after repair.

Thank you very much, I will do some searching.

It is a woven shirt and the small cuts are close to the side seam near the bottom so hoping to salvage it. A lack of movement shouldn’t be a problem but I hope it will stop it fraying.

And for the future, OP, always put your finger in between the packaging and the contents when you cut.

Thanks for the tip.
I do this but the fabric was actually folded and pinched/sandwiched inside the folded and taped outer part of the parcel bag in the top layer that was above my finger.
