Antibiotics and toddler

Both my sons are on antibiotics for suspected chest infections. My youngest has already improved after 24hrs/ 3doses. However my almost 4 year old has been worse and is currently bed. His temp was 38.8 and won't stay down without nurofen . He looks peaky and says he's really cold. How long should I give it before contacting my gp again?

It takes 48 hours for antibiotics to start working but if you are worried always seek medical advice. Look on the photo I’ve uploaded, if he has any of these symptoms then call 999 or go straight to A and E.

Thank you for that this morning he looked really grey but thankfully he has perked up a bit now. I will monitor closely though. His colour is more normal too

I’m glad he is feeling better but if he has any of the symptoms above then they needs to be seen straight away and put on a spesis pathway. In my health authority that means within a hour he would be on a drip of antibiotics and seen a doctor. Spesis is one of the biggest killers in the U.K. but early treatment means most people have a good outcome.
