Grumpy people at work

Hi,
I work in a school as a TA I have been there for 9 months now and some of the teachers and admin staff are so grumpy! I can be quite a chirpy person, but I have really turned it down because I dont want to irritate people who are already irritated. I fully understand there might be other issues as to why they are like that, but when they are like that everyday and with the children it makes me feel a bit Confused
Some of the kids refuse to go in the office if xxxx is there because "she will shout" , now I just spend most of my time with the students because I cant face speaking to staff who may or may not bite my head!
Any advice?

Don't become like them! Let there be more people like you, "don't let the bastards get you down". Ramp it back up, you may position influence one of the grumpy ones at some point. If not know that the children always appreciate a happy face. A personality like yours can make such a different to the lives of those living in misery. You might be the only person to smile and be happy to see the adult/children that day. Be yourself.

Hard line to tread OP - but before you "take sides" find out what is happening ethos wise at school. If everyone is like that then I think it's a bigger issue

What age are the pupils - unsure as you refer to them as kids, children and then students?

Always nice to be sociable and open - and don't let this grind you down but equally find out more and don't label those who may have been there longer "grumpy" either

It’s been a tough 18 months for many people. I work in a different sector but there have been many stressed, grumpy people and I adopt the same stance as a previous poster - stay positive, happy and helpful. Sometimes it rubs off on others, sometimes not but I refuse to become a grumpy colleague to fit in!

Thanks everyone,
It is a secondary school (11-16) and I really enjoy being with the students, they make me laugh and I love my job. I will definitely take that stance. I deliberately keep away from the grumpy ones now and I think that will suit everyone!
