Can anyone explain the process of naming a school in an EHCP?
We're in the process of staring DS (3) application, who is due to start school next year. He's on the ASC pathway, currently receives band 4 EHA funding, has Salt and Occ Ther support. Having been to see a few of the local primary schools we have found one that feels like a good fit. However, we're out of catchment. I've been told that you can name a school in your EHCP, but also understand the LA will ask if your catchment school will be able to meet your child's needs. Can anyone explain how this works?
The reason we particularly like this schools is they seem to have a very flexible and pro-active approach to SN, whereas our catchment schools have felt a bit more 'like it or lump it, this is how we do it' stance and kept encouraging me to look at specialist provision - which I'm not against, but it didn't feel very welcoming
