Laptop/Surface to go/tablet for school

My eldest is on the autistic spectrum and has other muscular issues which mean she need an alternative way of recording work at school - school can 'lend' her a giant laptop for use during the school day but it can only be used at school and work then emailed to herself/teachers as a hard copy. They have said we are welcome to buy her one of her own which she will be allowed to connect to the school network to use at home and school, with the proviso there is no social media/gaming etc. accessible during the school day.

We have looked at the Surface 2 go but it seems they are being discontinued, an actual laptop is an option but she's not keen for some reason or we buy an iPad and connect it to office/outlook but the thought of a easily broken iPad in school where others may not be as careful concerns me as if it gets broken we can't afford to replace it!

any suggestions/ideas?

My DC has a lenovo thinkpad (older version) for school for similar reasons. I didn't want anything too expensive or fancy as 1. It would be easily broken, 2. expensive to replace if broken/lost etc. and 3. I wanted it to be seen as a tool they use to help with their work, not something to show off about or make them a target to their classmates - they stand out as 'different' enough already. It's been great so far, perfect for what is needed and tough enough to survive a (pretty careless) yr 7
