Why does breastfeeding hurt now when it didn’t before ??

I have a 14 month old who is bf 3-4 times in the day and as many times as she wants at night (we co sleep so I don’t even wake sometimes)
Never had and pain or issues till now ?
Randomly feeding has be some excruciating and I can’t work out why. It’s making me want to stop but I don’t want to as planned to carry on bf till 3 or 4 😞

Should I contact a specialist or is this just because of teeth maybe ? I don’t want to give up but I’m dreading each feed

What is the pain like and when does it happen? For instance, a deep burning after a feed may be thrush in the duct.

Sharp pain all the time, like over sensitive and sharp if that makes sense

All the time when feeding that is when not feeding it’s ok but still I’m not 100% comfortable

Are you pregnant ?

Chardlettuce · 27/09/2021 16:14

Is the pain on both sides or just one? I had a milk blister on one nipple and it was so painful. The other side was fine.

spiderlight · 27/09/2021 16:14

Could be a blocked duct or a milk blister. Is it painful on both sides?

bumblejee · 27/09/2021 16:15

That's how I discovered I was pregnant with my third, because breast feeding my second was suddenly agony!

Patty101 · 27/09/2021 16:25

The only time I get pain when feeding is my son when he isn't latching properly. At 10 months he's an expert feeder now, so I know it's either the start of a cold and his nose is blocked up, or he's teething and has a sore mouth. Usually tends to right itself within a few days - how long has this been an issue for you?

OuchOuchfeeding · 27/09/2021 16:27

Both sides are equally painful and it came on suddenly

I don’t think it’s thrush as it’s not burning and can’t see any white patches on her tongue.

Very much doubt I’m pregnant my period only returned about 5 weeks ago and I was irregular before (plus have been careful so it’s probably v v unlikely although not impossible)

It’s only been the last 3 days

Poor latch. It can change as their mouths get bigger.
Milk blister
Thrush
Hormonal changes in you

OuchOuchfeeding · 28/09/2021 07:52

Def not pregnant as checked! So it must be a poor latch all of a sudden ? It’s so painful 😣
