Plug in hybrid owners- low fuel question?

CalmDownBoris72 · 27/09/2021 13:14

We’ve only recently got a plug in hybrid, it’s low on petrol at the moment and I’m wondering how much petrol it uses when the battery is kept charged.

The gauge has said 20 fuel miles in the tank for a week, the battery has been kept charged. I’m wondering how long I have before it’ll need to be filled up? I don’t have any journeys longer than a full battery charge to do within the next week but lots of small ones.

Google wasn’t helpful with an answer so interested to hear experiences of other owners.

I have a Golf GTE - when its running on Electric it doesn't use any fuel. When its running on hybrid it will use fuel, When its running in GTE mode it drinks fuel! If the fuel gauge says you have 20 miles then you probably have 10 at best plus about 2/3 of the miles it shows on electric charge. Max I get out of mine now is 24 miles which gets me into or home from work (15 miles) without any heat or air con on.

If it was mine I would put some fuel in - I don't let mine go below 50 mile range.

I would put fuel in but there’s a shortage at the minute @blobby10 Grin

@SheWoreYellow what the manual says and the reality of what people actually get out of cars for mpg are very different things. They are lots of aerticles around like the one below.

It would give you an idea though.

Thanks, I was looking for others experiences though hence the thread asking for such.

Kuga PHEV here

As long as it's charged I can get 37 miles ish out of it

It uses electric unless you accelerate aggressively or go over 85mph

As long as I drive carefully, it won't use any petrol (I have 1/4 tank so not been to try and fill up yet as not going far this week)
