What Could This Be?

I've just got in to bed here in the land down under and I can hear something scratching inside the wall. Whatever it is, it got the attention of my cat earlier in the evening, he was very interested in the corner up near my head. It's not loud enough to be a possum but too loud for a mouse. A rat? A bird?
I might get some sleep tonight.

Mice always sound a lot louder than I think they should.

Mouse, possum, gecko? Which city are you in? It’s not going to be a crocodile or a shark, so I don’t think you should be too worried. Our venomous snakes and spiders are silent and a jellyfish is not going to hang out in a wall.

I once found squirrels nesting in the roof space…
