My dh has been involved with a start up for the last four years. He is employed FT by someone else but invests a lot of time around this into this other business. We have also invested approximately 25K into the business over that time. The business now has approximately 15 FT employees and turns over a couple of million. Any money that is made gets re-invested. There are three directors (Inc DH) who have yet to take any money. They have targets whic, when they hit them, will make the business turn a profit. They are about 2/3rds there. However in order to speed this process up they need more investment in the form of either cash or expertise. My dh has the expertise but the business can't afford to pay him market rates so we would be worse off in the short term and it would be a risk for him to give his current employment up when actually this might not even work.
DH is very positive about the future outlook for the company. If all goes to plan it could give us financial security. At the moment I feel so drained by it all. It consumes all his time and it seems never ending with a constant requirement of more everything. He quoted 7 years as a time period for a start-up to become successful.
Does anyone have any experience of being involved with a start-up and can you share it please? I'm interested to know the journey that other people have been on as at the moment I just want to walk away.
