How can I help this stray cat?

I have been feeding a stray cat in my local area for over two months now. I can offer shelter in my greenhouse but can’t house it due to allergies. I’m buying food every week for it and it’s started dragging dead rodents and birds to our doorstep as a thank you which is, of course, lovely but actually quite distressing. I have tried to locate an owner using a paper collar and the local Facebook community page but no such luck, it doesn’t have a microchip. It barely leaves our garden tbh so I’m certain it doesn’t have an owner. It has also started excreting in the NDN’s garden which has caused understandable complaints, I have apologised profusely and explained I just can’t find a home for it.

Now the issue is the weather is starting to turn bad and I feel sorry for it. I have contacted literally every shelter within a 60 mile radius (refuse to travel more than 120 miles) and all have said they’re full. It’s on a few waiting lists but they have told me their waiting lists are long. RSPCA were no help at all, they told me this cat isn’t a priority because it’s being fed so basically if I stopped feeding it they’d maybe help? I don’t know what to do in all honesty, does anyone have any further advice?

I guess you've tried Cats Protection?

In the interim are you able to make it a little shelter - you can find instructions online but it involves two plastic storage boxes one inside the other with straw for insulation

What area are you?

Poor cat! Do you know if it's male or female, or whether it's neutered?

Male and it is neutered which is causing shelters to be even less interested in the poor thing! I have tried cats protection, RSPCA, asked cat chat for advice and they gave me a long list of shelters across Yorkshire so I took the time to contact each and every one but none could help. I’ve put blankets down in my greenhouse for it so it has some shelter from the rain and some warmth.

Poor Puss. You are a kind soul to feed it. Try Cat Man Chris on Youtube or of course, Cats’ Protection.

Maybe put a private plea on Facebook or community hub, someone might want him

Just slightly concerned about him falling in the wrong hands that’s all.

I had this same problem, a poor stray showed up and I couldn't find anyone to take him. I made a shelter box with polystyrene insulation and the poor old Tom loved it. Every three months I'd call around all the shelters again and beg someone to take him, but they didn't seem to care even when I lied and said I couldn't feed him! I kept telling them he was an old boy with stiff legs and obvs getting older so he really needed a good home, but I got nowhere.

Eventually someone reported me to the rspca and the nastiest woman showed up to take him and accused me of neglecting "my" cat. I just hope he got to live out the rest of his days somewhere nice.

Even a plastic box on its side with straw in would work
