Help! How to register LFT test at care home

Briset · 26/09/2021 13:50

DM has been in a care home for the duration of the pandemic and ever since visits have been allowed I have been arriving 30 mins before to do an LFT test.

Today when visiting I was told off because I had not done the test before I came. They say they are now too busy to do it in the home for visitors. That’s fair enough but I didn’t know there had been a change of policy and I don’t know how to share LFT results with them. I have been googling for ages and it does not seem clear at all.

Does anyone know home you share home LFT results ?

Just take it with you? Could that work?

hedgehogger1 · 26/09/2021 14:02

Do you not just show them the text with the result you get when you report it?

Briset · 26/09/2021 14:03

I guess I could it with me but the journey by train is about 4 hours. I imagine the result fades? Also how do I prove it is my test?

LFT tests at home don’t have text results though

register it online and show then the text or email.

QuestionableMouse · 26/09/2021 14:05

Take a selfie with it.

CreepyPaper · 26/09/2021 14:05

Just take it with you and show it to them. The result doesn't fade. I think it unlikely that the home will ask for proof. The home my Mother visits to see a relative certainly doesn't. They just ask that you take the test with you, to show them.

Sorry but how do you register an at home LFT test online?

When you do a LFT at home you register the result online on the direct.gov website where you get email and text confirmation. All the ones I've done have been like that

kimlo · 26/09/2021 14:07

www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result

you are supposed to register everyone you do what ever the result. They then send a text and an email like a pcr result, but it says lateral flow.

Just report it on gov.uk

Briset · 26/09/2021 14:08

Thanks for all your replies! Me and my family have done countless home LFT tests and never registered them!

Do you have to scan anything or just report whether positive or negative?

LaundryForever · 26/09/2021 14:10

I thought you was meant to record your result? Then you get a text and email. All the details are online and in the instruction manual

AChickenCalledDaal · 26/09/2021 14:11

You report the LFT result online using this link:
www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result

There are a few screens of questions about why you are taking the test. One of them is to say that you are taking a test because you visit someone in receipt of social care. That's the one you want.

You will get a text message back, confirming the negative result.

My Dad's care home wants to see the text message and confirm that is (a) negative and (b) done on the day I am visiting. I just show them my phone when I arrive.

The first time you register, you will need to provide lots of information. It includes a reference number for the care home which is really hard to fine online. I would suggest asking the home to let you have it. Also create yourself an account, so that it remembers most of the information for next time.

dangermouseisace · 26/09/2021 14:12

We found it was a pain in the arse trying to register them, and sometimes it doesn’t work, so I just take a photo now (I work in social care).

UpsyDaisysarmpit · 26/09/2021 14:25

Just go to 'report COVID test result' as above. My advice is to register so that in future it doesn't take so long to do it (it prefills the form if you have a login). You should get an email or a text you can show.
