Please talk to me about Le Creuset kettles

Are they good? Do they take forever to boil? Do they work ok on an induction hob? Does the whistling noise get annoying?

We have been given a John Lewis voucher in order to buy a new kettle (long story) and I was going to go for a normal electric kettle but now I’m getting notions of being a fancy person with a nice le creuset kettle. Would get white or black since our kitchen is those colours.

Don’t they weigh a ton?

@GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER I don’t know, I hope not? Haven’t actually physically held one just been looking online. Presumably they can’t be too heavy, as otherwise no one would be able to use them…?

I have this one, it was an unexpected present but it’s great. Not heavy like le cruset casseroles but not light and flimsy either. We’ve had it about 4 years now and it still looks like new.

They’re not heavy but compared to an electric they take ages to boil, you might get fed up! Though induction is quicker

We have the same one as Owl, it is lovely and works well on our induction hob. The main drawback is that you can't just nip out of the kitchen as you obviously need to be there to remove it from the hob once it reaches whistling point. It's a loud whistle! Bit annoying in the morning when I'm trying to do multiple things sometimes involving popping upstairs for something whilst also preparing my morning coffee. So I sometimes end up using a saucepan instead, which kind of beats the purpose of having a pricey kettle.

Why not just leave the whistle open/off?

I've got the black lotus one pictured. Love it, aesthetically it looks better than any electric one I found, quick enough on an induction hob and it frees up space on the counter.
Only issue is if frying something on the hob need to move it out of the way as it gets splattered.

I have a lovely volcanic orange one and I think it’s brilliant! Aesthetically it looks great and it heats up super fast on the induction. It is heavy compared to an electric kettle but it also means you don’t overfill and just boil the amount needed for the time.

Also have the one Owl pictured. I love mine, I got so bored of electric kettles burning out. Not heavy at all, even when full.

Never had an electric kettle

Thanks everyone. They certainly do look lovely! My main issue is that almost all electric kettles - even super duper expensive ones - seem to have a lot of shit reviews and none seem to last longer than about 3 years. We bought our current one in 2017 and it looks like I just got it at the tip 😂 they just don’t last. Le creuset may be the way forward!

We have one and it’s great. I couldn’t find an electric kettle without lots of plastic inside it. I can do without boiled microplastics in my tea thanks.

And so it should be. Isn't it just a kettle shaped pan, so in theory should last indefinitely?

OP I agree with you about kettles not lasting. All our big appliances, so washing machine, fridge freezer, dishwasher, ovens etc seem to last forever, at least 10 years, often far more, our FF is about 22 years old, but we seem to go through kettles, toasters and microwaves at a rate of knots, I can't remember any of them lasting more than about five years.

Its not like we have cheap rubbishy ones either. Usually something like Russell Hobbs, or current kettle and toaster are Dualit and they're not great.

I think if the kettle goes pop, I'll look at a stovetop one, I'd probably forgotten that they still existed.

I always thought they were for aga owners.

Mine boils quicker on my induction hob than my old electric kettle ever did

We got fed up with ours, at first we thought it was ok having to wait to boil but after a while we missed having an electric one, especially when I had to pop out to see to baby and the kettle whistling away in the kitchen or answering the front door and the kettle blowing steam everywhere.

I did a bit of research and went for the Kitchenaid artisan electric kettle, had great reviews, is really good quality and much more convenient!

@WhatAWasteOfOranges oooh I might have to look in TK Maxx. We have the John Lewis voucher but the prices are a bit eye watering and I could always use that for something else (ie buying random shite in their January sales) if I found the kettle much cheaper in TKM.
