I'm assuming you don't have Sand in the garage OP??

SoupDragon · 26/09/2021 09:50

Could it be very fine sawdust from something like woodworm?

ApolloandDaphne · 26/09/2021 09:53

Do you have wooden rafters in the garage or wooden boarding? If you do then maybe check it for something burrowing into it?

sueelleker · 26/09/2021 10:47

Do you have ants? We get that in the garden where the ants come up through the paving.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 26/09/2021 11:25

Teeny tiny vampires who stayed out too late.

Hellocatshome · 26/09/2021 11:26

Woodworm?

tunnocksreturns2019 · 26/09/2021 13:04

Thanks all. I was out at church obviously praying about the situation Grin

I think ants is on the money. There’s no wood around to gnaw.

Or vampires.

If it comes back every night then less likely to be ants - I agree with something falling from wood/ holes in wood from above. Ants burrow but you can usually see small holes close to their digging where they go in and out and there's more of a mix of colour in the heaps unless they are digging purely in sand.

SoupDragon · 26/09/2021 14:07

I don't see how if can be ants if it's not on joins or holes on the flooring though

LaBellina · 26/09/2021 14:11

Ants? Or a wooden ceiling being destroyed by woodworm? I hope for you it’s ants.
If I were you I would put an ant trap in the garage and see if the mystery piles disappear.

Hen2018 · 26/09/2021 14:14

Frass if it’s coming from above. Ants if it’s coming from below.

Hellocatshome · 26/09/2021 15:04

If it were ants burrowing downwards through the grey floor wouldnt the piles be grey?

tunnocksreturns2019 · 26/09/2021 17:37

Hmm. Ceiling isn’t wooden. It’s not wood. It smells…weird. Kind of sickly. Confused

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 26/09/2021 18:13

What is the ceiling made of?

There seems too much for it not to be something sawdust or sand like. It can't be eggs of any kind - you'd have to burn the building down!

SoupDragon · 26/09/2021 18:14

Golden caster sugar?

tunnocksreturns2019 · 26/09/2021 20:00

It’s definitely not sawdust. Or sugar! Walls are painted concrete, ceiling is painted plaster, all is oddly immaculate for a garage as I’ve just sorted it out.

It’s mostly appearing on the gaps between floor tiles…which are on top of concrete.

The grey tubs nearby contain chicken food. It’s also not spilt chicken food.

I’m wondering about spider mite eggs. Spider mites being a common chicken issue.

If so it’s getting cold soon so that will be the end of that.

It’s not something inanimate. It’s inherently a bit creepy ConfusedGrin
