What’s this scam?

I’m selling something on Facebook marketplace for about £80. It’s medium parcel size to post.

I get a contact from someone saying: ok, I will buy. I will send money to you via courier. Once you have money I’ll arrange pickup from a different courier.

It screams scam and I’m not desperate to sell so just ignoring it but what is the scam here? Would the parcel get lost and I’d get hounded? Fake money? Can’t work this one out. Anyone come across this

Sounds bizarre. Why can't they PayPal you and you then post with tracking number etc

Echobelly · 25/09/2021 18:43

Yeah, my philosophy is that if someone proposes an overly elaborate way to pay and/or pick up, it's a scam, even if you can't work out what the scam actually is.

Yes it is. My friend was selling some furniture and Got this message.

Block them, but before you do, tell them to fuck off

money laundering

I had a thread on here about this and yes it's a scam. I was selling a bike and they wanted to send a courier with the money in cash, then he'd take it to them in Belgium

Mol1628 · 25/09/2021 18:45

Yes it’s a scam. When this happened to my friend they were given a fake ‘DPD’ link where they had to send £50 first in order to give the details. Which the buyer was apparently going to fully refund.

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 25/09/2021 18:46

The money they send you is stolen. You pay the stolen money on to the 'courier' - laundering it - and when it's claimed back you are out of pocket.

Hey thanks for replies. I’ve no doubt it’s a scam, I mean what’s wrong with PayPal, just couldn’t work out how they extracted money. Sounds like @Mol1628 has it.

At a guess, forged money, then parcel goes missing so they want a refund
