Took phone in for screen to be repair. Got it back today, unlocked it and the screen was of one of my pictures of me that I sent to friends asking if my outfit was ok.
Now feeling freaked out. What if they looked at my personal info e.g. where I live

What kind of place did you take it to? Proper shop or market stall type place?

Mariell · 25/09/2021 17:03

They might have looked at your photos, they might not have.

They might have thought your were gorgeous or they might not have felt any attraction.

They will be looking a many phones throughout the day and it’s highly unlikely they will even remember you if they did glance at your photos nor is anyone likely to act upon it.

I think if you have left a phone in a repair shop and it's physically out of your sight there's chance they could have looked at everything on your phone. If you ever need to leave it with someone then make sure you delete any photos or messages you'd be uncomfortable being seen.

LowbrowVictoriana · 25/09/2021 17:21

Way to miss the point, @Mariell Hmm the problem here is security, personal information and privacy.

If you ever need to leave it with someone then make sure you delete any photos or messages you'd be uncomfortable being seen

Often though, a phone is taken in to be repaired when the screen is broken and there's no way to erase anything or prepare the phone in advance; however even if they repair the screen they still shouldn't be able to log in, as passcode/fingerprint/password should still be required.

If you don't have some sort of protection on your phone OP make sure you sort this now!

LaBellina · 25/09/2021 17:25

That’s very inappropriate and I would be upset too. Can you check what personal details they might have found on your phone and if they could have used them for other malicious purposes? Also if they’re part of a chain make a complaint to their head office and if they’re independent, leave some reviews about them online so other women are warned about this creepy behavior.

I worked in a large chain mobile phone shop at uni, this was absolutely rife. The creepy bastards would love it when good looking women had to send their phone off for repair because they could take it out the back. I would 100% expect my phone to be gone through leaving it with anyone.

I was told this was the case in "the olden days" when photo shops were a thing and film had to be developed. Someone told me about a local shop where the creepy guys used to have copies of holiday snaps in bikinis etc on a back wall. Creeps me out when I think of all the naked baby/toddler photos they had access to back then.

They definitely snoop. I had my phone screen replaced by a genuine shop and when I collected it I found multiple tabs open- my messages to my husband from months back, my gallery scrolled halfway through and all of the messaging sections of my social media apps . I'd expect them to open a page or two to make sure the screen was okay and maybe to check the colouring and quality was alright, but google and the camera should be enough.

Now I get my friend's wife to fix things like this because she'll fix it in front of me and isn't a weirdo. As PP said, report to the head of the company and leave reviews online.
