IKEA Hemnes desk?

MrsLCSofLichfield · 23/09/2021 22:03

This one

Does anyone have this, and is it worth buying, please? There are desks I am coveting much more, e.g. Cotswold Co, but I am frustrated by lack of depth. This is about the right dimensions for what I need, but I've never bought any Ikea furniture before and I am wary of flat packs.

Would you recommend or not? TIA. Smile

We don't have that particular one but we have 3 Ikea desks in our house and other pieces of furniture and all of it is absolutely fine. I find their stuff to be good quality and hard wearing. Just take your time assembling it (or pay a professional!) Smile

We have lots of Hemnes furniture still going strong 5 years later

BarbarasStripedHands · 23/09/2021 22:15

We have that in the brown/black colourway.

Definitely would recommend - it's very sturdy and very heavy, definitely feels substantial. What I would say is that the edges where you sit have come away slightly but we have had it at least 10 years and it's used pretty much everyday (apart from weekends).

From what I remember, it took a couple of hours to put together, nothing too horrendous.

We have that, it’s about 10 years old. Very sturdy and a good size. The paint has chipped here and there, but it has moved house twice, and was recently stored in the garage for a couple of months. And DH uses it all day every day, and he’s messy and more likely to damage things than me.

ApolloandDaphne · 24/09/2021 06:54

My DD had that one in white. It was large and very sturdy. When she no longer needed it we passed it on to someone else and I assume it is still going strong. I would definitely recommend it.

Kinsters · 24/09/2021 07:24

I don't have the desk but we've got other items from the Hemnes range and they're really sturdy and high quality. I do think some IKEA stuff is a bit flimsy and rubbish (maybe more so in the past) so it's definitely better to see it in person before buying.

thirstyformore · 24/09/2021 07:32

Not that one but we have other IKEA desks which are great quality (including the hemnes bureau which has been used every work day for years as my desk, and a wardrobe which is at least 15 years old).

Recently bought some furniture from argos for dd's room and it's not a patch on the IKEA ranges equivalent priced items.

purplesequins · 24/09/2021 07:38

I looked at that but found the depth too narrow to fit screen, laptop, keyboard etc
in the end I went for this dining table

SusannaM · 24/09/2021 07:42

OH also went for an IKEA dining table similar to the one in the above link. He needed more depth to accommodate multiple monitors.
DD has two IKEA Micke desks, they were second hand and have been brilliant.

JaneLivesHere · 24/09/2021 07:50

Hemnes is a good solid range. Better quality than the Micke I would say. I don’t have the Hemnes desk but I have the drawers and the shoe cabinet (which I’ve just painted ) and we have Micke desks because we needed the corner ones.

May I suggest

Proper bargain price too, I paid £120 for mine last year!

Rollercoaster1920 · 24/09/2021 07:58

Hemnes pine is very soft so dents easily. If you look after things it'll be fine. I have the TV stand and the children have dropped toys on it and dented it.

true, that's the case for many ikea furniture.
AmandaHugenkiss · 24/09/2021 08:06

We’ve had quite a bit of Hemnes stuff and it’s all been good.

RandomMess · 24/09/2021 08:26

I buy glass tops for my furniture get it locally made to measure.

PalacesOfMontezuma · 24/09/2021 08:30

Not the dressing table but we do have Hemnes furniture that we've had about 13 years and is in daily use. It's still fine, a few small scuffs and chips as you'd expect but no problems with it at all.

We like it so much that we've just recently furnished another room in Hemnes in a different colour.
