Did you get married abroad? Where did you go?

So I think I want to get married abroad (not until probably 2023 when hopefully travel will be even easieršŸ¤ž) but can’t decide where to go. Elopement-style as in just us two. Would love to hear any recommendations.. any ā€˜dos’ or ā€˜don’ts’…. Not quite at the point of planning yet but at the moment have no idea where to start. All I know is ideally I want sun, sea and quietly saying vows on a beach!

We went to Kenya. A couple in the same hotel were our witnesses

We got married in Florida. Amazing.

Dominican for us.

Needed all our documents translated and notarised beforehand so couldn’t be done on a whim

In my haste I forgot to add that we did two stops. The ceremony at Lake Erskine and a picnic and phots at Earnslaw Burn.

Maui. Standard joke on MN but I did actually get married near Wailea. Beautiful island, love to go back, shame it's 30hrs away.

No sea, but lots of sun and sand. We went to Vegas, The Little Chapel of flowers, just me and DH.

Loved it and would recommend it to everyone. We went to get our license on the day we landed in Vegas, as need to do that 48 hrs before the wedding. We prebooked the service on the website using a series of drop down options which got us the service, photos, witnesses, flowers all as part of the package. It cost less than $200 to book and we got a DVD to give to any family who wanted to see it.

Vegas turned up on the Tuesday went to the chapel and booked wedding for next day, court house by limo Tuesday eve, married and drinking champagne by 4pm and next day.

Cuba, although we didn't elope, there were 20 there.

Highly recommend going abroad, we had one meeting with the wedding coordinator and that was it.

Snap, also the Little Chapel of the Flowers in Vegas. A looonnngg time ago when webcams were new, and family and friends watched from home. Booked in advance, wedding, flowers, limo etc. Also booked hairdresser etc beforehand. Very easy and surprisingly touching as was just the two of us. Not too cheesy.

Ah these weddings sound so lovely. Encouraging to hear it can be done relatively simply and easily!! I’m a bit of an anxious person and my family tend to stress me out anyway so I just want a really simple, sunny wedding just the 2 of us. I’m veering towards the more exotic beach destinations… if we can manage it without going bankrupt! Don’t think Vegas would work as partner doesn’t drink and is such a shy soul I think he’d hate it šŸ˜‚ sounds fun though!!

We went to Copenhagen, you only need to give 48 hours notice to get married there. Just the two of us, had a security guard and a passerby as witnesses. It was noisy brilliant

Usernameisgone · 24/09/2021 00:08

We are going to Gibraltar. Just the 2 of us. Everything been arranged by sweetgibralterweddings.com

Wasnt as expensive as I thought it would be, and so straight forward

MadisonAvenue · 24/09/2021 00:34

New York. We were going to be there anyway on holiday so decided to get married. It cost $55 in total for the licence ( required 24 hours beforehand) and the ceremony back in 1998. We asked a couple who’d just got married themselves if they’d be witnesses (I believe you only need one) and called our families from the top of one of the Twin Towers to tell them afterwards.
