Hi everyone, i ve been having issues with little flies in the flat where i live.i dont live any food outside but it seems more and more coming.
Also i used a special item for them which i bought online without any luck.
Any advise on this would be really appreciated please.Prefferably not using spray for insects etc.

there are loads of them everywhere this year.
I don't think there's much you can do except keep all food sealed away.

I keep getting them in my kitchen too. My food caddy seems to attract or even cause them. Have stuck it outside

FreddyMercurysCat · 23/09/2021 21:17

We've got loads of the fuckers - I keep swallowing them in my tea.

They'll disappear as the weather cools I've been told.

We've got loads of fruit flies and I can't get rid of them! The most effective way I've found is filling a small glass with a few squirts of washing up liquid and topping up with apple cider vinegar. This traps loads of them but I don't know where the rest are coming from!!

awonderfuladventure · 23/09/2021 21:20

We have the same problem. Pour a bit of cider vinegar in an empty, clean milk bottle and make a cardboard funnel for the top and they will all flock to it. Worked for us.

Thanks for the tips both

Do you have any plants? I find they like hanging around in my houseplant's soil... I've brought some sticky yellow things to put in the plant pot that they get stuck to. It's both gross and satisfying at the same time!

WormYourHonour · 23/09/2021 21:28

I've got them too. I'm relieved it isn't just me.

They just sort of drone around the kitchen. Too small to really be an issue, top big to really ignore. They drive me batty. I think something outside attracts them and they come in through windows and vents.

Ah, I've got loads of house plants!

I have put one of those mesh pop up dome covers over our fruit bowl which seems to have sorted the problem

I have had tremendous success with fly papers! Bought them from Amazon and only £6.99 free delivery over £20.00

I read they live in the drains but I don't know if that's true. This year has been the worse for these fruit flies.

I poured about 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar in a mug, put one drop of washing up liquid into the mug, stretched Saran Wrap (plastic wrap) over the top of the mug and then poked holes in the Saran Wrap. The flies walk on top of the Saran Wrap and then go through the little holes. They can't get out.

Rantyrantason · 23/09/2021 21:47

Yup, they’ll be nesting in the soil of one of your houseplants. There’s probably a way to get rid of them, but I just left the plant outside!

HappyGirl86 · 23/09/2021 21:49

We had loads of them, it was driving me crazy! I discovered it was due to the house plants. I got my husband to move his plants back outside and they went away! Problem solved.

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 23/09/2021 21:55

As people have said they might be fungus gnats, which live in pot plant compost. The larvae eat the roots, but you can get treatments that get rid of them. Fungus Off or something?

You can also get them if, like us, you store Nespresso capsules in an open recycling bag until ready to post. The capsules can go mouldy and the flies proliferate in it. Lovely.... won't make that mistake again!

Snoopsnoggysnog · 23/09/2021 21:58

We’ve got them too. Drive me crazy. I thought I had just noticed them more the last 2 summers as we’ve been at home more due to lockdown.

I have just thrown out my stored nespresso capsules! Shock

GeorgeA241208 · 18/10/2021 21:13

I tried the apple cider vinegar with fairy liquid and didnt work.
The only thing that works its the sticky fly trap paper. Finally the problem is solved.Smile

We had these in our house plants. Managed to sort out the issue by putting gravel on top of the soil and sprinkling on top with ground cinnamon. Seems a shame to use the cinnamon in this way but it works!
