Help me remember this kids book from the 70s/80s

Ok hear me out. I only remember one detail but it has randomly popped into my mind and I remember being so taken with it at the time.

Not a picture book, a chapter book aimed at older kids I think. The detail is that the kid in the book gets their hands on an unused roll of wallpaper, and uses it to draw on the back of.

Not just scribbling, I think it was a cohesive design that ran continuously across the paper, possibly a town scape?

I think new pens and pencils were involved.

That's it. Anyone?

Or it might have been the characters big brother who did it and the character was a bit envious.

Also possible it was in fact my big brother and it wasn't a book.

It sounds like one of the Ramona Quimby books by Beverly Cleary. Maybe Ramona and her Father?

Doesn't totally fit the description, but what about Marianne Dreams? Super creepy book about a girl with an indelible pencil.

Yes it does! I read all of them. I'll have a dig, thank you.

My first thought was also Ramona and her father. Ramona and her out-of-work dad set about drawing the state of Oregon where they live. It stems from Ramona wanting (impractically) to stand astride the state border on the interstate bridge.

It is Ramona and her Father! And it's in the movie too!

You've made me very happy 😊😊😊
