My direct debit has gone up from £47 a month to £649 a month!
Holding on to company now on phone while typing.
Yes doubled or whatever. But this is more than 13x my previous DD

£47 is very, very low.

ToastieSnowy · 23/09/2021 15:05

Are you in debit with your account too? That’s an extortionate rise.

youngerself · 23/09/2021 15:05

Actually, worse than that
694 from 47

Yikes. Either a mistake or you are quite in debt and they are trying to get it back? Are your meter readings up to date?

SheWoreYellow · 23/09/2021 15:06

How big is your house and had you sent in readings recently?
That sounds like a mistake to me.

geeses · 23/09/2021 15:07

Are you with EON?

My meter showed this week that I had used 99999 KWH this week. Somethings gone wrong somewhere...

youngerself · 23/09/2021 15:08

I pay by DD and last few estimated
I've read them now and usage slightly higher than last estimate

There's an enormous gas and energy crisis at the moment, many companies going bust.

It's likely all tariffs will significantly increase in the near future, although hopefully not 13 x !

FuckingFlumps · 23/09/2021 15:11

I agree with others £47 is very very low I suspect they have actually realised you're in quite a bit of debt due to under payment.

youngerself · 23/09/2021 15:11

Yes I understand there's a crisis but more than 13 x

I pay £67 combined (for now!) and am currently in credit so £47 for electricity isn’t that low.

That increase is ridiculous.

Busygoingblah · 23/09/2021 15:13

I’m one person in a 3 bed terrace and my DD is about £50 a month and I’m currently in credit by about £200. I believe you that you’re original payment could have been covering it!

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 23/09/2021 15:14

I guess that this is at least partly to recoup underpayments. British gas kept reducing our DD for some reason, so it was at one point £28 per month for a draughty house with GHC and gas cooker. when they realised their miscalculation they wanted a crazy amount monthly. We preferred to pay off the debit with a lump sum and have a more sensible DD actually based on usage.

youngerself · 23/09/2021 15:27

Got through 🎉
Yes it seems my usage is more than my DD and they have an up to date reading now
They'll send me a confirmation in the next 24-48 hours
I'm going for a lie down now to recover from the shock

My winter bill last year don't do DD) was £402. We are all electric in a 2 bed 2 reception 100 year old house with electricity supplied to a workshop and shed that are both used every day . We are home most of the day in the winter and i keep the house at 19 degree's. Your bill sounds very high, are you sure nobody from the rest of the terrace hasn't bypassed there meter and connected to yours ?
