Help with London Underground - Marathon Day!

Can anyone help please?

Running the London Marathon on Sunday 3rd October and have just received details of the wave I'm in to start - trying to plan journey.

I have to be at Blackheath to start - suggested arrival time at Blackheath of about 8.30am.

I am staying near Park Royal tube (long story, thought the hotel was more central) so thought I'd get the Piccadilly Line to Green Park, then change to the Jubilee Line to London Bridge. Train from there. All looked fairly easy (if not a bit long!)

Anyway, have then gone on TFL just to get an idea of how long that might take and its not showing a direct journey from Park Royal to Green Park, its saying change at Acton Park. Have checked planned works and nothing showing.

Can anyone reassure me that (according to the tube map) its just one tube to Green Park and then change for LB?

And is this the best way of getting to Blackheath?

I did live in London for a while 20+ years ago and have been pretty often since, but obvs don't want to end up running to the start line because the tube / train is late when I have another 26.2 miles to go Grin

I guess you mean Acton Town? That's where the two branches of the Picadilly line meet, so you'd only be stepping across to another platform. (Though not sure why the planner is suggesting this as can see no planned works for that weekend.... )

Having had a look at the Park Royal page on TfL it looks like some trains go all the way through to central London and some stop at Acton Town. Maybe all stop at Acton on Sundays??

Sorry, yes Acton Town. @NameyMcNamechangeOoer when you click on that link and put in a Sunday, it says the first service is 8.30am. Can that be right do you think (on Marathon Day!!)?!

Sorry, ignore me, it starts earlier to Acton Town just not to Green Park, as you say, must be some sort of final stop at Acton on a Sunday!

Ahhh.... so first through train to Green Park on a Sunday is later but if you put in Acton Town train start much earlier. (And there you can pick up a train coming from the Heathrow branch.)

An alternative would be to switch to the District Line at Acton Town, get off at Victoria and take the direct train from Victoria to Blackheath. I imagine that would be a lot quicker.

Or you could take the District Line to Embankment, which is just around the corner from Charing Cross station, you can also get direct trains to Blackheath from there.

I don't know how often the tube/trains run on Sunday morning but I would look into it, otherwise you're doing this big loop on the tube and switching at Green Park is long and annoying.

Also give yourself loads of time to get out of the station at Blackheath, it's a tiny station so I think it will take a while for the crowds to get out!

Thank you, that's really helpful.
