Energy Providers - Flip or Stick!?

Samuraisammy · 23/09/2021 09:35

Hiya, can this be moved to the correct thread please if there is one!

Just reading the recent news where two energy providers have gone bust and found out the provider we are with have even less people signed up (we’re with Shell energy, of previously First Utility)

Is anyone with this provider and is there any concern to have of Shell Energy going bust?

Anyone have any recommendations of good providers that are secure/safe as a fall back?

Thank you all for taking the time to read :)

Shell is fairly big and hedge so in theory should be a safe-ish bet.I'm
Are you on a fixed tariff or variable?

Samuraisammy · 23/09/2021 11:20

@TheQueef Hi there, thanks for replying. We’re on fixed. Is this the best tariff would you say?

If you are already on a fixed tariff, I'd stick. If it goes bust, you will get transferred, but at least you will have benefited from the lower tariff in the meantime. Just keep ontop old entering g meater readings, and take a screenshot of your credit/debit on the account every now and again.

@PeonyTime Great thank you for taking the time to reply and for your advice. Much appreciated

I think its advised to stay where you are especially if you have a fixed tariff as you won't find a cheaper deal at the moment so may as well pay the lower amount while you can

ItIsMyName · 23/09/2021 12:04

You can check if your tariff is the best using MSE Energy Club.
The way things are it probably is and stay with them if you can

Energy Providers - Flip or Stick!?

Rumours that Bulb are asking for a bailout at the moment.... Should I look at other options just in case or does anyone think they will survive?

Sylvvie · 23/09/2021 12:06

Sorry, this is actually the wrong thread!! As you were...

You need to just sit tight and not switch right now. That's the prudent advice being given. You risk all sorts of issues by scrabbling about trying to find someone else.

Everyone is in the same boat.

ShowerOfShite · 23/09/2021 12:21

I'm with Avro, who have ceased trading as of yesterday. I'm also signed up to Look After My Bills, they've advised me to sit tight while Ofgen allocate me a new provider. They will then check and switch me to a cheaper provider, if one is available.

TheQueef · 23/09/2021 13:27

As said by PP if you are fixed already stick for now Sammy you're protected from the price increases until that fix ends or (unlikely) Shell goes bust.
