Not trick or treating this year?

Anyone else not taking their kids trick or treating this Halloween?

OP posts:

I’m not.

Same as every other year though!

No way!!!
‘Trick or treat?’ ‘Here you go, help yourself to some sweeties out of this bowl 20 kids before you have - dont forget to have a good rummage around to get the ones you like’
Covid risk far too high!!!

I’m expecting trick or treaters this year. I’ve made little bags for them, so no rummaging. My own children’s haul will be antibaced and their hands washed before they’re let loose 🎃

CatrinVennastin · 22/09/2021 14:28

No.

Can't be arsed this year. Most of the kids on our street are now secondary school age so hoping it will fizzle out.

Am on a diet anyway so don't want eleventh billion fun size mars bars in my house tempting me.

I'll be handing out prebagged sweets (haribo etc) and I'll be the only person touching the bowl. I'm actually thinking of using a grabber type tool so no-one will be touching the sweets at all.

I'm also going to have some hand satanizer Halloween Wink available for anyone who wants it. Safety first and all that.

I expect it will be quieter than usual but I'm determined to decorate this year (rules permitting, obviously).

Goldenphoenix · 22/09/2021 19:09

My two would be devastated if trick or treating is cancelled for the second year in a row. We will walk around and see if anyone has put any sweets out. We leave some individual bags on our railings for kids to take and that seems like a good compromise

thefourgp · 22/09/2021 19:11

Not this year because of covid which is a shame because I used to make a big deal of decorating the front garden and my kids preferred it to Christmas.

Mojoj · 22/09/2021 19:14

We don't go "trick or treating" as we're not American. We will however be going guising.

OhRene · 22/09/2021 19:23

Our village is. But we all have bags made up ready (as it's always been here) so no rummaging and Covid spreading happening. Everyone gets a single bag given. And all the sweets tend to be ready wrapped things.

Sadly Covid meant that there's no homemade Scottish Tablet any more.

LukeEvansWife · 22/09/2021 19:27

Given that in my area nobody seems to have got the 'only go to decorated houses' memo, I'm hoping COVID puts most people off

MrsColon · 22/09/2021 19:29

We are definitely doing it! Treats will be in a bowl of water beads smothered in anti bac. It's outdoors, far less risky than clubs, pubs, restaurants etc.!

We are also double jabbed, and all 3 of us have had covid.

Nooo! Tablet is the best thing about guising unless you're a dentist Sad
Ttbhappy · 22/09/2021 19:31

You could always leave a bowl of sweets outside or packets, nice for kids

Lindy2 · 22/09/2021 19:32

We didn't last year because of Covid.

I'm not sure yet about this year. Considering I send my kids into schools where every day someone else they have contact with tests positive, being outdoors and picking up some pre wrapped sweets seems relatively low risk in comparison.

Lindy2 · 22/09/2021 19:34

We've also all already had Covid. DH having to go out to work all through the lockdowns proved far more dangerous for us than trick or treating.

MajorCarolDanvers · 22/09/2021 19:36

Mine will be going guising.

Our old house was like that- we got so fed up of it unsettling our dog and kids every 2 minutes that it just became our habit to unplug the doorbell and turn lights at the front of the house off. We've recently moved so not sure what it's like here but I'll be doing the same just in case!
SylvanasWindrunner · 22/09/2021 19:40

We didn't get stuff in last year and no one came round but we will this year. On a normal year, we get a lot, so we will see what happens this year. I might take DD to the neighbours on either side as it'll be her first year old enough to get some enjoyment from it.

Not really worried about the Covid thing - I think the risk of catching it from a sweetie is a drop in the ocean now that kids are all back at school and so many restrictions have been dropped!

SalsaLove · 22/09/2021 19:43

We will have treats and put our lights on to encourage them. I love answering the door and exclaiming over their costumes.

Explosivefarts · 22/09/2021 19:44

Not doing it here either

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 22/09/2021 19:46

Mine will be
They did last year and nobody got covid. Life's too short.

inmyslippers · 22/09/2021 19:47

Yes can't wait! We really missed it last year

stargirl1701 · 22/09/2021 19:48

We're in Scotland.

We didn't go guising last year but I feel we could safely do so this year. DC have both chosen a joke and a poem this week so they can practise before 31st.

Normandy144 · 22/09/2021 19:49

Yep definitely doing it. We also went out last year for a walk - I don't think that was a crime last year? There's definitely ways to make it safer (which in fairness could have been adhered to last year), it's an outdoor activity. You don't have to have a bowl to rummage through, people can place individually wrapped items out on a small table or hand them at a distance etc. Many creative options. After all so many people said it was only one year the kids would have to miss out didn't they?!!🤣
