Anyone else not taking their kids trick or treating this Halloween?

Blimey, lots of you would have a hearts attack if you walked through a secondary school, 1000 kids touching the same door handles, In an assembly sat side by side with 400 kids, 600 in dining halls together etc

Are you seriously concerned about kids outside touching the same wrapped sweets as others?!!!!!

TreaslakeandBack · 22/09/2021 20:00

No because we’re on holiday until 1st November. Otherwise yes I would be.
We’re going to have a party the weekend after instead.
I find it strange that people think the risk of Covid is high- it’s an outside activity! Hand hygiene and even wipe the sweet packets down if you feel the need.

Itsnotdeep · 22/09/2021 20:00

Yes we are. It's one of the highlights of my dd's year, and she won't miss it again.

Probably not,not many people answer the doors round about our street and the people in the housing estates don't like children that don't live I the estate going to the door.
Good job neither of mine have never really wanted to do it. They're too shy.

GTAlogic · 22/09/2021 20:18

Yea course we will be. Either that or we'll be going to someone's party. They're at school all day with other germy children, as am I, and apart from the cold I have currently we've been fine. It's going to be fine. We have to get over this at some point or we'll be spending the rest of our lives in a constant state of worry and hiding ourselves away.

Laiste · 22/09/2021 20:25

We will. I think. The school gave out very specific instructions guidelines last year (small village) and everyone went along with them. Wonder what they'll say this year? If anything.

maofteens · 22/09/2021 20:36

My kids are too old but we'll do a couple pumpkins and have some sweets ready. New neighbourhood so not sure what the norm is here but as we are on the same street as a primary school so lots of kids around. My kids loved trick o' treating.

ShushShushShush · 22/09/2021 20:42

We won't be going out trick or treating because I don't want a load of sweets off other people but my DS will dress up, we'll decorate the house and hand sweets out probably.

idontlikealdi · 22/09/2021 22:01

I think mine have crossed the line into being too old, shame they missed out last year. We'll decorate and stick some sweets out.

RubyFowler · 22/09/2021 22:10

We'll be doing it this year.
After all so many people said it was only one year the kids would have to miss out didn't they?!!🤣
Well, quite.

JingsMahBucket · 22/09/2021 22:19

I'm also going to have some hand satanizer Halloween Wink available for anyone who wants it.

This made me chuckle much more than I expected @RaptorInaPorkPieHat. Thank you for that :)

BlueberrySugar · 22/09/2021 22:26

We take part for the kids.

It's a bit of fun for them, only the decorated houses though and a lot of people here trick or treat.

We're doing a big Halloween party for the kids on the Saturday then they will do the trick or treating on the Sunday.

It's a bit of fun!

This!!

In schools life is gone back to normal so yeah why not do some trick or treating? It's outdoors so more covid secure than any classroom Hmm

Timeisavirtue · 22/09/2021 22:35

I don’t take mine trick or treating, they love opening the door to thier friends and giving out sweets.we do games and such. We decorate and everything.

Ragwort · 22/09/2021 22:43

I never encouraged my DS to go trick or treating, I just don't see the appeal ... if he wanted sweets I would happily buy him sweets ... he did once ask to go trick or treating but fortunately after 15 mins (with DH) he came home saying it was 'boring'. Fortunately he's away at uni now so I can't imagine he'd be doing any trick or treating. I am probably a miserable sod though as I just don't get what is 'fun' about dressing up and begging for sweets.

I am not totally miserable as I do put out pumpkins and happy to give out sweets to children who come to the door ... I wouldn't give any thought to 'Covid risks'.

Hugoslavia · 22/09/2021 22:49

I just not into Halloween. It's too Americanised. And yet another excuse for shops to peddle more plastic tat. We have a perfectly good more traditional English festival 5 days later that I would much rather celebrate with homemade treacle toffee, toffee apples and fireworks. Sadly people are becoming too intolerant of the latter these days, which is putting a stop to most organised displays.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 22/09/2021 22:50

We'll be doing it as normal. Big bowls of sweets etc. Did same last yr

Stompythedinosaur · 22/09/2021 22:58

We will be going. We're in a rural area, all the dc are at the same small school together, which they travel to together on a cramped mini bus. If covid is going round they are all going to catch it from each other anyway.

To be fair though, fireworks are actually harmful. I hate Halloween as it's annoying but it isn't harmful.

Fireworks terrify (and actually injure/kill) animals.

The fact that there are fewer displays every year js a relief to many people

Three0fivepointfour · 22/09/2021 23:06

Totally stealing the hand satanizer.

Applesandpears23 · 22/09/2021 23:07

Last year people around here decorated their houses and there were maps with quiz questions and a theme. Parents handed out sweets to their own kids as they went around. It was just as fun for the kids but much easier for parents to just sort sweets their own kid liked. Also easier for allergies. I hope we do the same this year.

Whstdoyouthink · 22/09/2021 23:09

We are totally doing it this year!!!!!

Rainbowshit · 22/09/2021 23:12

My kids will be guising this year. They're getting to the age that it might be the last time they do.

We are in a very prominent position in our local area so usually have 100 or so guisers. Really missed it last year so will be going all out this year!

lynntheyresexpeople · 22/09/2021 23:20

Absolutely no one calls it guising, come on ffs 😂😂

HerRoyalNotness · 22/09/2021 23:35

We will and did last year too. I made up small goody bags, had loads leftover, as we live in a cul de sac so don’t get many passing. The only thing I wouldn’t let them eat from the rounds was the homemade popcorn bagged up. A shame as the couple had gone to a lot of trouble, they had loads of it
