Where shall I put my big bag of flour?

I ended up buying a 16kg bag of flour. I’ve used about a third of it, but the bag has just been sitting on the worktop for ages getting in the way and annoying everyone. What can I store the rest in?

Can you get giant kilner jars?
Or Tupperware from eBay, that lovvverly orange [heart eyes]

I got a wicker laundry basket and shoved my big bags in there. I also use the very large lock and lock containers .

We store ours upstairs in the big room, in a plastic bucket with a lid.

I have one of these boxes that I keep rice in. It just about holds a 10kg bag (if this is actually the size I have). Allows easy storage and keeps bugs out.

In a tall plastic tub, have moved a shelf in one of the kitchen cupboards to make room for it. Something like this box

Something the weevils can't get into

WeAreTheHeroes · 22/09/2021 12:55

Flour weevils are already in the flour. Freeze it when you buy it to kill them off.

worrybutterfly · 22/09/2021 12:56

Was going to say the same as @AuntieDolly.
Something airtight that weavils can't get into, they are a nightmare to get rid of and spread.

IKEA do really big airtight containers in the 365+ range.

Foxtailstump · 22/09/2021 13:23

Thanks everyone. I’ll get a big plastic tub. A Kilner Jar would be pretty, but I’d need loads or one so big it would be too heavy to pick up.

@WeAreTheHeroes do you freeze all your flour?
My hygiene standards are fairly lax and we’ve never had weevils.

Mine go in a huge plastic tub I got from b&m in the cellar next to another box to store large bags of rice. I them empty into kilner jars as and when needed.

WeAreTheHeroes · 22/09/2021 13:44

No - I've never done it, but weevil eggs are in flour and one way to kill them is to freeze flour for 24 hours.

Mumdiva99 · 22/09/2021 13:50

We had weevils twice.....both times the flour was bought from our local shop. Never bought from there after and never had weevils again. (We are lucky it didn't spread).
