Like loads of others I've got a sore throat. Gland on one side are sore. Not covid though. I've had several tests.
Any tips to sooth things. I've no honey in at the moment but may phone my son to pick me some up after work.

I'm coughing so much I am dry retching so the back of my throat feels like sand paper.
Can you tell I'm feeling sorry for myself!!

Any one else feeling lousy today?

You can buy throat sprays that numb the area. Great for one sided throat pain.

Lots of fluids, Lemsip is great for a sore throat too.

PlanDeRaccordement · 22/09/2021 09:06

Honey and lemon juice in hot water is best.
But since you don’t have any, gargling with warm salt water can help soothe the throat and kill any bacteria thinking about causing an infection.

Jakemans Throat & Chest sweets - Boots & Superdrug sell them. Or if you still have an old fashioned sweet shop or newsagent they usually stock them. Ice cream is also helpful.

Gargle with diluted TCP (instructions on the bottle). It kills, but does feel as if it's doing good.

If it's swollen on one side have you checked you don't have tonsillitis?

notacooldad · 22/09/2021 09:13

Thank you for your quick replies. One of my son's said he will be driving past my house mid morning so will pick up anything I need.
I said I'd send a list! Thank goodness the pharmacy and the CO OP are next to each other.

You should really see the Dr. If it's gone on a while, it might need antibiotics.

RagzReturnsRebooted · 22/09/2021 09:25

Another vote for throat spray. I only discovered it a few weeks ago and it's like magic. Where has this stuff been all my life? A few minutes and the pain just disappeared. Amazing.

EnidFrighten · 22/09/2021 09:28

Sage tea.

Reallybadidea · 22/09/2021 09:35

Having suffered a few bouts of tonsillitis, I would also recommend difflam throat spray. But also just good old fashioned painkillers like ibuprofen and paracetamol taken regularly.

SheldontheWonderSchlong · 22/09/2021 09:37

Difflam throat spray is brilliant when I have tonsillitis - if I use it before I eat I can actually swallow without crying!

notacooldad · 22/09/2021 09:54

I've never heard of throat spray.
I've asked Ds2 to pick it up.
I would have gone myself but Dh has ordered me to stay in the house, relax and keep warm!!! He's put the wood burner before he went to work so I can stay cosy.
I cant argue with that! 🤣🤣

I had so many plans for today but it's going to be sleep, Netflix and repeat I think!

This stuff is amazing

longwayoff · 22/09/2021 10:46

Gargle with one teaspoon bicarbonate of soda in water 3 times a day. Soothing and effective.

TheQueef · 22/09/2021 10:51

Benylin is saving my sanity at the moment also the Asda own brand lozenges seem to be working more than strepsils.

Cominghome1230 · 22/09/2021 10:57

My chemist recommended Tyrozets a few years ago. Now I always take them when I have a sore throat. You have to buy them over the counter though as I don't think you can take them with some other meds.

Another vote for Ultra Chloraseptic Spray. I suffer from tonsilitis and this helps.

Currently have Covid so it's back out again as glands have come up.
