why are all CBeebies presenters so young?

Maybe it's because I'm in my 50's but they all look so young to me.
I watch it with my GS and feel it would be nice to have the older generation represented, maybe someone in their 50's or 60's ( grandparent age )
I don't think they've ever had older people presenting it - when my dc were young it was Philip Schofield and Andy Crane in the broom cupboard. I wonder why?

Old Jack’s boat is on Cbeebies. Bernard Cribbins is 92!
I know he’s not a presenter but the age range is broad!

Itsnotdeep · 21/09/2021 19:54

Chris, Pui, Justin, Sarah Jane , Sid and Andy were all the presenters on CBeebies when my children were young - they were the same age or older than I was! late twenties - mid thirties (in fact they lasted longer than I did on cbeebies)

I saw a bit of cbeebies yesterday and agree they all look like teenagers now. But that could just be because I'm old now.

@Janaih

Chris and Pui are looking good on it!
Love Chris and Pui. Chris is godfather to one of Pui’s children Smile

He really brings the average up Grin

CBeebies Nigel is in his 50s, I believe

@Ionlydomassiveones

When they were little, my children loved ‘Come Outside’ with Aunty Mabel (played by Lynda Baron) and her spotty plane and her errant dog. What a fantastic role model of a kindly, older lady piloting her own plane, going on adventures.

When I was small I loved the likes of Brian Cant, Derek Griffiths, Johnny Ball (Zoe’s dad) etc.

There is just no reason not to have a the older generation represented in children’s tv other than sheer ageism. It’s a wonderful opportunity missed IMO.

I agree.

I also know three sets of parents in their 50s with primary School age children, maybe a more diverse age in presenters would be more representative. I guess it’s just the nature of children’s TV, I wouldn’t have the energy myself Grin

We used to watch Come Outside at school and Aunty Mabel was my role model. I was the teacher, though.

Andy Day is in his 40s and Rebecca Keatly is in her late 30s.
Their clothing and styling is done to be young and fun though.

Biancadelrioisback · 21/09/2021 19:57

@CallMeRisley

Andy Day (various Andy’s adventures programmes plus between programme links on the channel) is 40.
He's my fav TBF.

Oh I remember Auntie Mabel my daughter loved her!

CallMeRisley · 21/09/2021 19:58

Dodge T. Dog is only 11 so he brings to average down Grin

Mariell · 21/09/2021 19:59

Anyone remember the ghastly Ross Lee from Chute.

My children were old enough to watch what they wanted back then but I recall walking in and thinking what a horrible character for a children’s TV show.

No idea if his real age but he looked and acted like a 45 year old drug addict.

Absolutely wonderful show.
AGreenerShadeofKale · 21/09/2021 20:00

Loved that Aunty Mabel programme - quality TV!

Brian Cant was probably my favourite TV presenter ever.

SpikeyFloof · 21/09/2021 20:01

Anyone remember Pui's sex scene in Meteosexuality? Grin

Ashleys63 · 21/09/2021 20:03

Oh my dc's loved Aunty Mabel and Pippin - I think that was the dog's name.

Oh I loved Aunty Mabel! Completely forgot but was one of my favourites as a child.
YANBU I think more grandparent aged presenters / programs would be great.

QueenAdreena · 21/09/2021 20:09

Is Katy Ashworth still a CBeebies presenter? Haven’t seen her on anything in a while. Like Rebecca, I think she’s mid thirties, so whilst not old at all, they also don’t look as young and teenager-ish as the likes of Evie.

Hendersonsisnotrelish · 21/09/2021 20:14

Is Sidney Sloane still around? From lets play? He's 54

HopeClearwater · 21/09/2021 20:19

My childhood idol was Jonathan Cohen on Play Away. Always wanted to play the piano like him. Unfortunately I’ve not been given piano genes Sad

BusySittingDown · 21/09/2021 20:19

Chris Jarvis was a children's TV presenter back when I was a child, a loooong time ago. Grin

I think that they're young because they need to be able to relate to their audience. Although I think as we get older they seem young in the way that doctors and teachers seem young. I swear that my children are being taught by actual children Grin!

35andThriving · 21/09/2021 20:28

Not Cbeebies, I know, but DH were talking about Fred Dinenage the other day. He is on the new episodes of How but they make jokes about his age a lot. I don't think they should. It's ageist and it should be unremarkable that an older person is presenting a children's TV programme.

Mrsjayy · 21/09/2021 20:39

It was Andi Peters when DD 1 was watching he is 50 now so he was young way back then I think your perception is a bit off.

Mrsjayy · 21/09/2021 20:56

Im talking rubbish it wasn't Andi Peters at all he did live and kicking my DD watched that !
