Duckling toy - please help!

A couple of months ago I bought a Nature Planet Wild Beans Duckling for my 18 month old daughter from Marwell Zoo. In the last few weeks she’s decided it’s her must have, favourite toy but it’s now out of stock and the manufacturer says it was discontinued months ago 🙁

If anyone could help me track down another one I’d be really grateful - our one’s rapidly being loved to death and I’m terrified she’s going to lose it (at the moment Duck is pretty much an extension of her arm)

Any ideas/advice welcome!

Duckling toy - please help!

Have you contacted Marwell to see if they have any in stock? Apologies if that’s what you mean.

Penville · 21/09/2021 18:03

I have - they don’t have any 🙁 They were supposed to be getting more in the next few months but since I’ve now had an update from the manufacturer I assume that’ll be more Nature Planet toys in general and not the ducklings

Can you ask the manufacturer where they supplied to? Post on Marwell’s Facebook page to see if any regular visitors have one they don’t want anymore?

@DownWhichOfLate I’ve done the first - got a vague list but I’m hoping for more specifics soon 🙂

Can you post on a company’s Facebook page? I haven’t used it for a while but I thought you could only respond to their posts?

I think you can tag yourself as being there possibly.

Penville · 21/09/2021 18:34

@DownWhichOfLate I can’t seem to at the moment but maybe that’s because it’s closed? It’s a good idea so I’ll try again tomorrow (unless someone with greater Facebook savvy can tell me where I’m going wrong?) 🙂

Can you message them on their fb page

FleasInMyKnees · 21/09/2021 18:44

If you go onto their fb page there is a section on the left side with their contact details and a "send a message" option

DownWhichOfLate · 21/09/2021 18:45

Set yourself a status with @marwellzoo in it. So: “I bought this duckling @marwellzoo and am looking for a replacement” or similar.

Wormsarecool · 21/09/2021 18:50

Good luck, I hope you find one. Just to warn you though…I did this and searched high and low for a spare identical cuddly to dd’s beloved toy: I eventually found one and dd rejected it outright. I tried swapping them over day and at night so they smelt the same and for similarly grubby, but she can’t stand one and the other is still with her at night and when unwell and is her most treasured possession. It now no longer leaves the house for risk of losing it.

Penville · 21/09/2021 19:31

@FleasInMyKnees thanks for responding but wouldn’t that be to contact Marwell directly? (Which I’ve already done) 🙂

FleasInMyKnees · 21/09/2021 19:37

oh sorry, I meant the Nature Planet fb page. I wonder if any other zoo or museum stock him.

Penville · 21/09/2021 19:38

@Wormsarecool - I’m hoping she’s young enough that I’ll get away with it but that is a risk. I want to keep trying though. I know the smart thing (sentiment to one side) would be to shove the duck in a drawer and wait for her to forget about it but that would definitely take a while as currently every duck/bird in every book/TV show makes her demand her duck 😅

Totally agree with @wormsarecool, you’ll never get away with it. We tried this but my ds noticed immediately. Twenty years on he still talks about the imposter.

Penville · 21/09/2021 19:45

@FleasInMyKnees thanks but contacting Nature Planet was how I found out the duckling’s been discontinued. I’m going to ring around previous stockists tomorrow (the ones I know of) but I’m not optimistic. To be honest posting on here was partly to relieve my need to do something 🙂 Plus there was always a chance someone might know where it’s still being stocked/have a dozen unwanted ducks in a cupboard somewhere ☺️

I have googled and looked on quite a few zoo gift
Shops. I don’t think you’ll find one, the brand sell another type of duck but not that yellow one. I believe they’re on Amazon. Perhaps you could find her duck a friend instead of a replacement?
