Year 4 maths question….help

But maths is not my strong point

Anyway

Two different two digit numbers both round to 50 (when rounded to the nearest 10). The sum of the two numbers is 100. What could the numbers be?

Help please

I can do the sum to 100 but not rounded down to 50 to make 100

If I’ve understood the question properly there are several options for correct answers.
49 and 51
48 and 52
47 and 53
46 and 54

49 and 51, you can't do it if you are rounding down both numbers

46, 54
47, 53
48, 52
49, 51
50,50

The are the possible answers.

49 + 51
48 + 52
47 + 53
46 + 54

If you are rounding numbers to the nearest 10, you round down for numbers ending in 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and round up for numbers ending in 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 eg 50 rounded to the nearest ten is 50, 53 rounded to the nearest ten is 50, 46 rounded to the nearest ten is 50 etc

So the numbers that round to 50 when rounded to the nearest 10 are:

45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50, 51, 52, 53, 54

So the possible combinations that add up to 100 are:
46 + 54
47 + 53
48 + 52
49 + 51
50 + 50

If they have to round to 50, I would go with 45 and 55

Perpendicular 55 would round to 60.
