Hair falling out after stopping the pill.. normal??

I was taking cerazette for over 10 years and stopped taking it. Its the only thing that has changed this year. I noticed in June I was losing 5x the amount of my hair I usually lose. I can literally run my hands through my hair and create a little ball of hair rolled up. My mum said she thinks it's hormone related but I'm not sure.

Luckily I have very thick hair but in the last month it definitely feels much thinner than it used to. It feels like it does when my hairdresser thins it out!

Has this happened to anyone else? I am 28 if that makes any difference!

My hair was thinner when I either went on or came off the pill. I can’t remember which as it was 29 years ago but my hairdresser noticed the difference and it was the only thing I’d changed.

I lost 2/3 of my hair with Peri menopause so there’s defo a hormone link.

My skin had dried up so the roots were attached to flaky skin and that’s why it was falling out.

I got a prescription shampoo and prescription coconut scalp treatment from my GP. Think cocois was its name. Defo helped. I was running my hands through and it was coming out in handfuls.

I feel your pain. I hope it resolves itself soon. See your GP if you can. They say thyroid issues can cause hair loss too.

Yes this happened to me - a few months after coming off Yasmin (I had been taking it for around 18 months) I noticed my hair falling out. It eventually stopped after a few weeks and when it started to re-grow I noticed it was mainly around my hairline. The same thing happened after both my pregnancies, so I think coming off the pill can cause your body to behave in the same way as after giving birth. I guess it's the same type of hormonal changes?! But it's put me off ever going back on the pill as I don't want the same thing to happen again! It's taken a good year for the regrowth to not to be so noticeable.

Hi, I’m experiencing this now and it’s very distressing. Did this resolve itself for you?
