Constantly feel like I'm going to be sacked

Anyone else feel like this? It's anxiety, I know. Horrible, crippling feeling.

Have you spoken to a doctor if it is anxiety? You can get help and don’t need to live like that.

Or is it founded in something? As in how is your job performance?

InkyPinkyParlezVous · 20/09/2021 20:15

My performance is fine. Consistent extremely good reports. It's pure anxiety. Irrational but compelling.

Me too. I’m great at my job but my anxiety tells me I’m going to be sacked. I have no words of comfort, just know that you’re not alone.

Northernsoullover · 20/09/2021 20:18

I'm exactly the same. I haven't done anything sackable (I hope). I have a professional role which I've only just qualified for. I keep thinking how did I get this job?

idontlikealdi · 20/09/2021 20:18

Imposter syndrome?

Bluntness100 · 20/09/2021 20:24

I think then speak to your gp, anxiety is a mental illness ans treatment is available.

fedup078 · 20/09/2021 20:24

Yes. But there is a big chance I might be as they are cutting heads where I am
Without warning we just keep getting emails saying a close colleague is leaving . People who have worked there for decades . Basically told their position is no longer needed and they will leave at the end of the month. We are still working from home so everyone is just on edge now waiting for their phone call.
Are you having redundancies where you are or if this just an underlying fear you've always had?

InkyPinkyParlezVous · 20/09/2021 20:47

I've always been scared. Intensity varies, but always there.

Not that I'm gonna be sacked but that Im gonna do something wrong and a client will be mad at me.

I dread logging into work every day in case there is an email telling me I have done something wrong/upset someone.

I cant switch off when I'm off work as I'm thinking of what could be sitting there waiting for me.

I think a part of it is that I want to get everything right all the time.

MeredithMae · 20/09/2021 21:02

Yes I do and I know 100% it's pure anxiety. I am trying to work through it with my therapist at the moment and it's helping a bit.

WLmumyvbymexn · 20/09/2021 21:07

Totally get that. I've left several good jobs because I became so convinced that I was rubbish, that I should leave before they found out and sacked me. Even when I got counter offers to stay, I couldn't because I thought how mad they'd be when they then realised after giving me a pay rise that I was rubbish and had somehow hood winked them.
I know it's nuts but there we go.
Admitting I felt like that was a big step, and although I still have a lot of anxiety in my job now, I can see that the above was in my head and not in reality and so can try to talk myself round.
