Advice needed please, my iPad won't update.

I have an old iPad Air, that wont download the latest update, so it can't access some of the stuff I used to use before.
It just suggests trying later....
I am a total non tech person so don't know if it's worth taking somewhere to 'fix' or if I just need to get a newer model.
Any helpful advice received gratefully.

Older models may not be supported by the latest updates so you may never be able to download new ones

I've just come across the same problem. Mine is on version 12 something, and not compatible with iOS 14 which many Apps require to run. I've been told the only option is to buy a new iPad 🙁

I was thinking along these lines tbh. I just didn't want to splash out on another, and find out that there was a remedy all along.

Have you checked to see if it's just a case of not enough storage for the new update. I had to clear off a thousand things DD had downloaded at the weekend to allow it to update to the new IOS.

My ipad is really old so I'm stuck on 10.3.3
I do have an android tablet though
