When the pigeon flies at the window to leave a body print like a snow angel on the window.

Why does this happen and again AND just when I've cleaned the fucking window.!!

@10ColaBottles

I always check for the injured bird but nothing this time.

The print is incredible though this time. The definition on the wings is v precise.

I'm wondering what kind of gooo they are covered in the make the print !

It's Paul the Pigeon* trying to make a point.

*I believe this made it into Classics but I can't recall the name of the thread.

Paul? Is that you mate?

They are a bit greasy aren't they?

We had this all last winter, with collared doves and yellowhammers. It stopped in late spring. I wonder will it start up again as the light angles change?

saraclara · 20/09/2021 21:27

Well, I went out for the afternoon after I last posted. And came home to TWO more 'pigeon grease angels' on the patio doors! So that's four in three days.

Maybe they're just trying to kill themselves?

Wow seems excessive. As someone said must be the light angle. Maybe it's worse on sunny autumnal days.

I need to clean mine off but it's kind of pretty. 😀

I often keep that window wide open and now wonder about the possibility of the greasy pigeons flying into my bedroom...

They are kind of pretty but apparently 80% of bird-window impacts end in death, even if not immediately, so I hate to see them. It's quite important to prevent them somehow.

Not a greasy pigeon, but we had a cheeky wee robin hopping around the dining room last winter - it popped in the patio door to check the place out. Such warm fuzzies I had!

Goatling · 21/09/2021 09:45

I had my first pigeon hit the patio door just last week, gave me such a shock but it didn't seem to be harmed as there was no sign of it outside. It was more of a shock the following day when one flew straight in the open door and started flying around the room much to the excitement of my two cats. Luckily it found it's way out again before any damage was done, took a while for my heart to calm down though.

That's really sad. I had a pigeon dead in my garden not so long ago. Damaged wing I think. Suspect that was the reason
😟

Oh jeeze, I had that too, a couple of weeks ago. Again, the first time ever. What's going on this year?
FolornLawn · 21/09/2021 10:40

We had a pheasant do this, it was killed straight away, poor thing.

SpeckledlyHen · 21/09/2021 10:42

I have integrated blinds in my bifold doors and now have them down all the time but open (if that makes sense) so the windows are not totally see through for the birds but I still can see out and get the light. I've sat here too many times and heard a massive thud only to find a bird has flown head first into them. Some survive, some don't and after the last one died I suddenly realised I probably could do something about it without resorting to sticking anything on the glass. Poor birdies..

BlackeyedSusan · 21/09/2021 10:54

I hate when you can see the eye in the print. it is like a pigeon ghost coming back to haunt me everyting I walk into the kitchen until the window cleaners come round with their long pole again.

BlackeyedSusan · 21/09/2021 10:57

last one that happened was a pigeon. seemed to be dead lying on the grass below. I was contemplating the protocol for dead pigeon in shared garden and whether someone needed to pick it up.... before i had chance to decide, the magpies and crows were well on the way to doing the cleaaring up. It had disappeared in a couple of hours.

pickingdaisies · 21/09/2021 11:08

Sometimes they see the reflection of the garden and don't realise it's a reflection. Or if you have windows at both ends of the room they may think they can fly straight through. I've got colourless frosted stickers shaped like leaves on my patio doors, from Amazon. It's enough for the birds to realise there's something there and I've had no bird strikes since. They seem to hold themselves on because there's no glue and they are easy to peel off and replace. The leaves that is, not the birds!

Goatling · 21/09/2021 12:32

saraclara no idea, but there does seem to be an awful lot more of them this year, (non stop shagging!) maybe it's their way of generational selection to leave more food for the younger generation.

I used to work in an office in the third floor, surrounded by trees. We put orange tape on the Windows to stop this happening and it worked.
