Is your Mumsnet personality the same as in real life?

Mumsnet is known for how harsh/forward/rude posters can be, or known for posters being offended easily, or all piling in etc, so I was wondering if, how you are on Mumsnet, are you like that in real life? Or different?

Do you write posts and talk on them, about situations or to other posters how you would talk to someone face to face?

Is your “mumsnet personality” the same in real life?

No.
I don't talk much and am not sociable.

EspressoDoubleShot · 19/09/2021 14:55

Exactly the same don’t say owt on mn I wouldn’t say in rl
RL and MN are Different mediums, obviously on mn no nuances or facial expressions
I think mn is heaving with posters being all sassy when in rl they’d not say boo!to the goose. On mn they’re all LTB! Change the locks in RL I bet it’s a murmur and shuffle

I think I'm the same. But the big difference is that the people I mix within RL are not like a lot of people on MN, so on here you can end up interacting with people that in RL you might just walk off and leave to it.

I posted this on another thread but this is me on here most days.

Sparklfairy · 19/09/2021 15:00

Yes I think I'm much the same. I'm pretty direct IRL and very fucking sweary Grin

evilharpy · 19/09/2021 15:01

I don't think I have a mumsnet personality! But I don't get into arguments on the internet or in real life, I try not to be a dick to people and I don't really post anything I'd be upset about if someone worked out who I am. So probably the same really.

FindingMeno · 19/09/2021 15:02

I try to moderate myself for mumsnet, because I feel its a different place to my real life.
For starters no one I know uses the word entitled or gosh.

gailplattshairbrush · 19/09/2021 15:04

Yes I think so. I try to be fair and kind. I don't like to see people piled on or picked on. I don't really like to see prejudice or judgement. I speak my opinion on MN and in RL...though maybe a bit more bluntly on here.

Elieza · 19/09/2021 15:04

Yup. I’m always complaining any something! Grin

girlmom21 · 19/09/2021 15:04

I hold back more on MN because there's always someone else who's better educated and is quick to tell everyone else they're clueless on every topic Grin

ScrambledSmegs · 19/09/2021 15:13

Yes, I can't act for shit. Wouldn't be able to keep up a different persona for more than 5 minutes.

Sparklingbrook · 19/09/2021 15:13

Or they are just a massive know it all that actually knows nothing and is just spouting any old rubbish and claiming it as FACT. Grin
WaterAndRichTea · 19/09/2021 15:15

Those horrible mean keyboard warriors arent like that in real life

Because here they can be nasty and judgy and not have to deal with the consequences In real life, someone would punch them

They are cowards!

Christ I’ve read some ill informed factually incorrect guff on mn pomposly purported to be fact Advising Change the locks to kick out dp Common law wife is same as wife Marriage is just piece of paper All posts relating to Wakefield and MMR
Tittyfilarious81 · 19/09/2021 15:18

I'm exactly the same, I wouldn't say anything on here that I wouldn't say to someone in real life

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 19/09/2021 15:19

Yes.

Megistotherium · 19/09/2021 15:20

I'm very quiet in real life, and since I'm not a native English speaker and I find writing English easier than speaking, I think I am quite different on online and real life. But basics of my personality my logic is the same.

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 19/09/2021 15:24

I'm pretty much the same here as I am in person, except I tend to consider my wording a bit more when I'm typing. I certainly don't use MN as an outlet for anonymous cuntishness - I wouldn't say anything on here that I wouldn't say to someone in person.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 19/09/2021 15:28

Yes. I’m always irritated on here when posters claim that I would never, I don’t know, question someone else’s decision not to get vaccinated or fire their useless childminder in real life. If I’m asked my opinion (which is what MN is) I absolutely offer it.

girlmom21 · 19/09/2021 15:28

@Sparklingbrook ha that definitely happens too! Sometimes you just have to pick your battles Grin

mynameisbrian · 19/09/2021 15:29

Probably but I think written communication is easy to misunderstand and I can come across on MN sometimes as being harsh and critical. That is not me in real life as I am up for a discussion, harsh truths being part of that from both ends and listen to others and very fair with people.

I have no doubt their are keyboard warriers on here he wouldnt say boo to a goose in real life so use MN as a way to get their life gripes out. I see it at work where folks happily ping emails off being rude and nasty and wouldnt say a word when face to face

Mariell · 19/09/2021 15:30

To a degree. I’m quite blunt, outspoken and opinionated but free speech isn’t entirely allowed in here so do tone it down.

InnPain · 19/09/2021 15:32

I don’t think people are as rude and direct in real life as they are on here. If they were I don’t think they’d have much fans in the real world.

You get to hide behind a screen and pretty much say what you like on mumsnet.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 19/09/2021 15:35

I am pretty much the same I think.

I’m not sure that is a good thing.

AuntieStella · 19/09/2021 15:35

I swear more in RL than I do on here.

Also, in RL I wouldn't usually put forwards opinions unless invited to (except with family and close friends) but I think that's one of the whole reasons for MN to exist, so would do so readily here.
