Would you dress toddlers/pre schoolers in shorts for wedding in October?

I think boys wedding outfits with shorts are so adorable but will it be too cold for them in October in Ireland...?

Of course not! Making them be cold so you think they look cute isn't on.

romdowa · 19/09/2021 08:25

In Ireland it could be very cold or quite mild in October. It's still quite mild here at the moment, so it all depends are the shorts /trousers expensive? Could you buy both and just see on the day?

Patapouf · 19/09/2021 08:26

Not in October in the northern hemisphere, no.
If the weather was really mild maybe some woollen tights underneath but otherwise I'd opt for trousers.
Weddings aren't for dressing babies in cute clothes Wink

It is unlikely to be warm enough for shorts in October.
Could you get both shorts and trousers and then decide on the day depending on the weather (but understanding that it is most likely to be trousers)

WaterBottle123 · 19/09/2021 08:29

No, why would you do this?

SausageRoll2020 · 19/09/2021 08:29

Team the shorts with knee length socks, they'll be fine and presumably the wedding is mostly indoors anyway.

Mariell · 19/09/2021 08:30

You could buy tights in a neutral/skin colour to wear underneath the shorts.

Squashpocket · 19/09/2021 08:31

Shorts and knee length socks is fine. My ds (5) very rarely wears trousers throughout winter. As long as his top half is warm he's fine.

00100001 · 19/09/2021 08:31

Do what the royals do, shirts with long socks.

00100001 · 19/09/2021 08:32

Plus, they won't be cold in shorts in October.

Most kids are little hot water bottles and don't get cold like we do.

butterflyfox · 19/09/2021 08:32

Depends on the child. And on the short. Warm wool shorts will be warmer than thin silk trousers. My son happily wore shorts all winter as a small child. Some children prefer them as less restrictive than trousers. If the trunk is warm then shorts and long socks are fine

isitworthitUK · 19/09/2021 08:35

Thanks everyone. Good idea re bringing both and seeing on the day (price permitting). I would team with long socks, will look at wool shorts.
One wears shorts to school mostly although I do put him in trousers later in the year.
I was a bit worried I was making them suffer for fashion but then again boys in the older generations wore shorts all year round 🤷‍♀️

Long shorts and knee length socks are pretty standard A/W - look at the number of prep schools that have that as uniform for the u8s. They're not freezing

So I'd say yes do it, if you've found the outfit you like

NannyR · 19/09/2021 08:39

If you team them with long socks, is it any different to a girl wearing a dress?
