Help! How do I remove this earring?

I'm having an MRI scan on Monday and I need to remove all my jewellery.

I have a stud in my helix at the top of my ear. It's a labret-type earring ... but how to do I remove it?? I had it done a couple of years ago and have never taken it out.

I think that the decorative part screws on to the post... but which way to I turn it? I've tried both but the whole flippin thing just spins round. I can't get a grip on it.

It is in my right ear, if that helps.

I don't want to be turned away from this MRI if I can help it. Any advice welcome!

The ball bit screws on to the shaft bit. Usually unscrews to the left. I found it helps get purchase on it if you wear rubber gloves. If you can’t do it maybe look for a piercing place tomorrow. They’ll get it out for you.

But which way is left?? If it's in my right ear and I'm doing it myself, am I spinning it forwards or backwards??

Backward from your face.

Thin latex gloves help too.

finally! It's out. Thank you. Managed to get it out by gripping on to the back with fingernails which stopped the post from spinning. Phew.
