Over the years I have suffered at the hands of so-called stylists Grin

  1. asked for a bob, got a wonky pixie with prisoner cell block H vibes

  2. asked for a feminine short hair style (hair already short this time!), came out looking like a lego figurine. When I complained, got told my hair is too straight!

  3. got a dye job that resulted in strangers shouting out 'badger'. I thought it looked good Blush but the photos tell a different story!

Only recently my usual stylist gave me an unflattering chin length bob when I'd only asked for two inches off my previously shoulder length hair Sad she also put highlights in my hair when I'd asked for my usual lowlights Sad Perhaps it was a communication issue as she is foreign and sometimes difficult to understand.

The other time was a few years ago with a different stylist in a different salon, which was a new and trendy place. I wanted my then darkened hair made lighter. Rather than tell me it couldn't be done in one appointment, she bleached my hair and then put me under a hooded dryer - which burnt my scalp and ruined my hair. Neither was noticeable until the next day when I noticed inflamed patches on my scalp and that my hair was becoming uncontrollably frizzy. Went back to complain but it was pointless as they tried to blame me for what happened. Another salon stylist elsewhere was appalled at what the other stylist had done, and spent hours putting it right a few weeks later. The salon at fault closed down a few months later, their incompetence probably had something to do with it.

A foot perm.

Mariell · 18/09/2021 14:04

That would be a ROOT perm.

I’ve never had my foot or feet permed.

I got a MULLET!!!!!!! A freaking MULLET!!!!! AngryAngryAngry 5 years ago!! Just before DD1 was born. I went back to the hairdressers and the #%¥$€~ said I asked for it AngryAngryAngry

grey12 · 18/09/2021 14:10

By asked for it I mean: I always ask for lots of layering otherwise it'll look like a triangle (which it has!!!!! Another bad haircut)

I don't like going to the hairdressers Envy very stressful thing!

TheBiscuitStrikesBack · 18/09/2021 14:12

This in not the thread to read whilst at the hairdressers.

cherrypiepie · 18/09/2021 14:24

I asked for half head light circa 2002. This I believed would be high lights through the top layers of hair leaving the lower layer untouched ( t section+)

She bleached dyed the front of my hair and left the back.

I don't believe I asked for the wrong thing but I have always doubted myself and wondered whether she was just a complete moron.

Also how did I not notice ans say something!

I went back the next day b and the manager tried to fix it but had basically ruined my fine fragile hair. She also blamed me as o had had a consultation before Hmm

grey12 · 18/09/2021 14:37

@cherrypiepie you mean like Cruella-ish?

Dadvdtret · 18/09/2021 14:37

In the mid 00s I took this pic of Dannii Minougue into the hairdresser. I have lots of fine but thick hair so I thought it would suit me. I got something that was very very heavy on top and a bit mullety at the back. It took ages to grow out and I was gutted.

I always had my long hair permed in the 80s, early 90s.
Stylist suggested a top perm only. The result was awful. My hair from my ears down was slightly wavy from previous perms but the hair above was tightly curly permed and although the same length as the underneath, it looked about 4 inches shorter as it sat higher.
I had a very clear divide where old hair met new hair. It looked like I had long hair and just put a curly wig on top without tucking my hair in.

TheQueef · 18/09/2021 14:43

2010 was sporting a convincing Russ Abbot for two weeks while I waited for her sick absence to finish so she could rectify the blonde pixie with warm tones I'd asked for £85 too.
Was the last time I had it done. I've never achieved a nice haircut Angry

DarkDarkNight · 18/09/2021 14:43

A take on the ‘Rachel’ cut right before a school disco, it was a hideous flicky mess.

An awful Cilla Black style bob, I like bobs and used to have them a lot but this was just an awful old-fashioned cut. My hair is really thick and needs thinned out which the hairdresser didn’t do and it just ended up Ina. Massive wedge at the back.

Allycott · 18/09/2021 14:49

This happened 20 years ago but it still bothers me. I had a Bob but wanted longer layers putting in to give it some volume when I dried it however the fucking idiot who cut my hair layered it all over - I was 33 without the haircut of someone twice my age! Husband hated it, I hated it! Took a year to grow back. Never went back to that shop and it's now gone. It was bloody traumatic! Doesn't matter what outfit you're wearing - if your hair isn't right you don't feel right.

Restinblue · 18/09/2021 14:55

I had one haircut where the hairdresser cut the whole thing with a razor blade and no scissors in sight. It was so wispy and uneven it looked awful.

The next day I went to another hairdresser and asked for a bob to cut off all the wisps and it literally looked like she had cut round a bowl. (Marginally better than the wisps.)

Mandalordeloris · 18/09/2021 14:56

I paid for highlights that made no bloody difference to my hair 20 years ago.

Other than that I've not had too many disasters. I did go to one hairdressers where they we absolutely incompetent. The lady cutting my hair had to go and fix someone else's extensions that had gone wrong and I was left with the apprentice trying to blow dry my hair. She couldn't blow dry to save my life and said I don't know why you're bothering, we can just use straighteners. Manager then came over to bollock her in front of the whole salon and proceeded to make the poor girl stand there in tears and watch her blow dry my hair. Never went back there ever again.

cherrypiepie · 18/09/2021 15:04

@grey12 yes exactly! but way less stylish. And on bobbed hair Blush

And the colour drained me

DreamerHutton · 18/09/2021 15:17

Perm. It’s always perms isn’t it? This one was when my bra strap length, good condition hair was actually looking quite swishy as I undid it from the bobble so she could begin sectioning.

Several hours later I looked like the love child of Bobby Ball and Spit the Dog but with more matts. Crying with conditioner on what was left of my hair in the bath that night did not fix a single strand…

Starlitexpress · 18/09/2021 15:25

In the 80s my mum paid for me to go to a top hairdressers (he had a regular slot on TV etc) and while it wasn't him it was very expensive. I ended up with the biggest bouffant style the 80s could muster.
As I looked aghast in the mirror the stylist then told me I looked just like princess Diana....NOT the look a hippy 18 year old was after......I burst into tears and was still crying when I got home and promptly stuck my head under the kitchen tap.
It was never mentioned again........

NoEffingWay · 18/09/2021 19:51

@TheBiscuitStrikesBack agreed 😁

Remember back in the early 2000s when mullets were in for a hot minute?

I went to the Andrew Collinge training salon in Liverpool and they butchered my hair. They were taking part in a competition and I agreed - but my hair is naturally curly and they decided to cut it so it stuck up on top and was long at the back. Aka a mullet Hmm

It was fucking awful, I’d gone there to save money and I ended up going somewhere else to fix it so I saved nothing.

Also, it was about three days before my 21st birthday. So that was nice.

Mmmmdanone · 18/09/2021 20:10

Can't remember what the actual cut was like, but the blow dry was awful. I walked out of the salon looking like a clown. I didn't even say anything about it but I rushed home to rewashe and style it ASAP.

Bobsyer · 18/09/2021 20:15

I remember as well going to T&G for a haircut, and it was awful. The woman I was with had clearly double booked so she did a slapdash job on my hair and then left a brand new trainee to blow dry it. As I said before, my hair’s very curly, so to get it straight (or a curly blow in this instance) you need heat and tension. The trainee clearly didn’t know how to do this, I’m pretty sure she didn’t want to hurt me. After 20 minutes she’d done hardly any of my hair and it was frizzy. I called over my stylist and said I didn’t necessarily mind a trainee but a) I was paying ££ for a top stylist and b) clearly she didn’t know how to do it! So she blow dried my hair grumbling all the time.

I tipped the trainee a fiver as she was hideously embarrassed even though I tried to let her know it wasn’t her fault. And then I had to back the next day because when I got home and wasn’t being rushed out the shop I realised it was wonky!

Luckily I called up and the manager told me to go back in and he fixed it completely for me.

lollipoprainbow · 18/09/2021 20:21

I asked for anthea turner style hair when it was all the rage, it looked nothing like it and I was sooooo miserable !! It was just so short.

lollipoprainbow · 18/09/2021 20:22

I've also had many a perm when I wanted a soft wave always end up looking like Deirdre Barlow !
