Just had ambulance out, what do I do now?

Hello I had ambulance out two hours ago. Woke up, felt like I was going to faint, massive ringing in ears, pjns and needles, clammy, can't explain how awful I felt.

They came, did ECG, asked if I ate a lot of bananas, I dont, stayed for a long while watching ecg and looking up results on phone. They said basically it was my choice if I wanted them to take me in or try and get some sleep.

I am alone with DS so thought i didnt want to drag him in.

Since then, I still have that weird head feeling, and pins and needles and still feel just awful. I cant sleep.

Should I go back in? I dont want to have to take DS with me. I have no one who could take him. Will they even let him come in with me?

111 won't know each hospitals policies but from what I know, they won't let your son in with you due to capacity and covid. Ecg would show anything life threatening but I'm assuming you need bloods to rule out any cardiac events that may have happened. Walk in centre would be the most appropriate and you can bring your son. A&e will just do another ecg and bloods and tell you to follow up with your own gp so walk in centre can do exactly the same treatment! Hope you're feeling better soon x

Weirdly I had something similar at the start of the month but in addition I also had a terrible headache which is what woke me. Didn't call an ambulance but assumed viral. Suffered through; next day woke up with a half paralysed face (bells palsy) so they thought ear infection causing nerve swelling. Worth getting it checked out.

TinaYouFatLard · 18/09/2021 09:17

I had symptoms just like this before I began losing huge amounts of blood. It was internal bleeding from somewhere but no source was found. Definitely best to get checked out OP.

justasking111 · 18/09/2021 09:18

@MrsLargeEmbodied

agree it could have been positional vertigo
That was what I thought. I was recovering from a cold hidden infection it was awful, thought I had a stroke. Lasted weeks until my dentist gave me antibiotics which cleared it up.
EagleOrIgel · 18/09/2021 09:19

DS doesn't have anybfriendsnlike that that I could text
Just ask, I would certainly take any of DC's classmates in this scenario.

OnwardsAndSideways1 · 18/09/2021 09:26

I've been in A and E recently and there were a lot of children in there with parents, no idea if just for children, but they won't let you leave a dependent child outside!

As your symptoms aren't abating, I would go back to A and E myself, unless you can get an urgent GP appointment. These symptoms may be due to an infection/virus as well, but there are other possibilities which are not ruled out by an EEG and so doing the full bloods/scans if necessary would reveal those, they can't be done by an ambulance at the scene.

Good luck OP, I agree with all the other suggestions to see if anyone else would have your child but if not, just take him with you.

SlidDownTheElephantsTrunk · 18/09/2021 09:30

Good luck OP, hope you get seen soon.

listsandbudgets · 18/09/2021 09:43

Hope they can sort you out OP. iIt does sound horrible.

Like others have said, if you've got a class WhatsApp group just ask I had to once for DS and got 7 offers of help

SergeiL · 18/09/2021 09:43

Glad you have gone in. Hope you get seen soon and can get a quick diagnosis.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 18/09/2021 09:45

@Silvercatowner

I would think you are probably brewing some sort of viral thing. The tests that paramedics do are pretty thorough. If they considered you needed to be in hospital then that's what they'd've told you.
I disagree with this Paramedics do not do bloods or scans - I would go with those symptoms op.
BedTed · 18/09/2021 09:52

@ThePotatoCroquette

If your ECG was fine and blood pressure and everything, then I would have an isotonic drink or two and take an antihistamine, see how you feel. GP on Monday though
Please never give anyone medical advice again on the internet. The OP was told by the ambulance to go in that night or today, so things aren’t normal. They don’t keep you on the ECG that long normally. OP I hope you get seen soon
languagelover96 · 18/09/2021 10:02

Call 111 or head to a local walk in center. Sounds like the outset of a vertigo attack but only they will be able to tell you for sure. Bring your son, he can play on iPad/do arts and crafts whilst you wait for test results etc. You are in my prayers.

MadeForThis · 18/09/2021 10:03

Hope everything is ok

Cuck00soup · 18/09/2021 10:03

Just to reinforce Bedted's point, the paramedics were concerned about OP's potassium.

If it were to be an issue with electrolytes, an isotonic drink could make things significantly worse.

Fortunately, OP is heading to A&E for a proper assessment.

This happened to me about 4 years ago. I woke up feeling really dizzy and everything went black when I walked around.

Got into bed, laid or sat down I was fine. Texted work to say I'd be in late when it passed. They made me see GP first. By time I had GP appointment at 10 I felt fine but ECG showed heart rate of 220! I got taken to hospital where they diagnosed atrial fibrillation. They spent ages trying to get my heart rate down, which was surreal as I had no symptoms by this point and felt normal.

Discharged next day on meds. No reoccurrence in 6 months so taken off meds. 72 hour heart monitor fine. Never happened since. It was very weird.

Makinganewthinghappen · 18/09/2021 10:13

Op i had the EXACT same thing a few months ago.

I was fine and woke up in the middle of the night to go to the toilet but when i stood up i felt like i was about to collapse, shaking, dizzy and the oddest thing was that my skin just felt like it was on fire.

I tried to ignore it etc but after 15 minutes i couldnt and woke dh who realised how awful i felt and took me to a and e.

They said i had LOW potassium, low sulphites and SVT.

I had medication to slow my heart and a drip for potassium.

50ShadesOfCatholic · 18/09/2021 10:23

I think you need to prioritise your health. Ask if he can go with you or, as suggested above, ask a school friend contact. I would not hesitate to take a child in these circumstances and I would do everything I could to help the child feel welcome and reassured.

bellabelle1994 · 18/09/2021 10:46

Hope you're okay op x

Silvercatowner · 18/09/2021 11:37

I disagree with this Paramedics do not do bloods or scans

Of course they don't ( Confused ) but they do do enough to ensure there is nothing urgent or life threatening.

Betsybanshee · 18/09/2021 11:44

Go and get checked - take DS with you.

It would be horrid for him if you suddenly got worse and collasped or something.

Hope you feel better soon Flowers

Mycatcontrolsmymovements · 18/09/2021 16:22

I'm back from hospital. They did bloods, ECG and CT scan. They didn't say anything about ECG there so assume normal. They diagnosed vertigo. Other PP whos had vertigo, did you feel clammy and weird blood rushing thing, pins and needles too? Anyway I am home and definitely feeling better than this morning. Just need to eat something!

Poor DS had to spend nearly 8 hours in A&E waiting room with me but was a really good boy

I get awful vertigo and honestly it does strange things to me. Pins and needles, sweats, bad tummy. Rest up if you can't. What a good kid you have x

JinglingHellsBells · 18/09/2021 16:48

Vertigo? Did the mention labyrinthitis which causes vertigo?

Mycatcontrolsmymovements · 18/09/2021 16:58

No just vertigo. They didn't say much tbh, but they were rushed off their feet today
