Joint Birthday Party Present Conundrum

Hi All,

We're one of four families holding a 4-way group 6th birthday party - it'll be a whole class party (25 children).

One idea is to minimise the pressure on guest's parents to buy four presents, and minimise the amount of 'stuff' each birthday-child receives is to ask that people who choose to bring a present, only bring one and the birthday children will split any presents randomly.

On one hand I agree with the sentiment.

On the other hand, talking about presents (unless it's to say 'don't buy any') feels a bit cheeky, and telling people how many to buy (even if it's 'just one') feels a bit controlling.

Have you seen this work elsewhere, and do you have any suggested wording to ensure that it comes across as intended?

Thanks!

I received an invite like this. Roughly: “if you’d like to bring a gift please bring one gender neutral gift and we will share them
Amongst the birthday children”
Thought it was great

Perfect. And i usually despise gift specifications.
