Building work

If you were having work done spread for a few months in dribs and drabs because builders were waiting for supplies or for jointer to get back to them etc, would you expect a phone call to let you know when they were coming to carry on with the work?

For example I haven’t seen the builders who are doing me a new drive for weeks because they couldn’t get the slabs I wanted, which is fine, they said they’d keep me updated. Haven’t heard a thing since start of September but they’ve turned up this morning at 7am asking me to move my car and DH car so they can get started. They’ve done this multiple times since starting the job and they use my house for access, so I need to be here, meaning my plans for the day are ruined Angry

I’ve asked them constantly to communicate with me and I’m getting so fed up.

Hmmm, I would, except that that our current builders have been shit at this and so now I don't expect it at all. Sorry, that probably doesn't help. There are so many crap builders out there Angry

Why do they need to use your house as access?
I wouldn't change my plans, I'd tell them to move whatever it was they needed to the front and crack on, then go out and lock up the house.

My house is mid terrace and no parking for their van where my drive is, the road is an utter nightmare. So they have to park their van round the back and carry stuff through the house. This was discussed when they first came to give quote and I didn’t (still don’t) have a problem with this, however now it’s starting to take the piss.

I’m usually quite trusting but I don’t feel comfortable leaving them alone in my house so luckily I’ve got a neighbour round while I pop for an appointment this morning.

Hopefully won’t be much longer like this!
